Download audiobooks to a MP3 player or iPod
Step 1: Visit the library’s digital collection
From your computer, go to
http://www.cityofspearfish.com/library and click ‘Digital
Content’, then ‘Download Books’. This takes you to the
library’s “South Dakota Titles to Go” collection.
Step 2: Download the necessary software on your home
computer
To download an audiobook to your device, you will need the
OverDrive Media Console Program. Scroll down and click the
‘Applications’ link on the bottom left side of the screen. Click
the ‘OverDrive’ icon. You will be taken into a new browser
window. Click Get Started, chose the correct device that you
will be installing OverDrive on.
Step 3: Install OverDrive Media Console onto your computer
The file should download and can be found in your browser
downloads folder, or accessed from either the bottom or top
of your browser page. Click ‘Run’ to begin installing the
OverDrive Media Console Software. Follow the prompts to
download the software on your computer.
Step 4: Log in to your account
Return to the “South Dakota Titles to Go” site. Click ‘sign in’
at the top right of the screen to log in. Choose ‘Grace Balloch
Memorial Library’ from the drop down menu and then enter
your library card barcode and password. (Your default
password is your last name in lowercase. You can change it
by logging into the library’s website).
Step 5: Find an audiobook
You can browse by using the genres listed at the top of the
page or search by author or title. Audiobooks are designated
by a pair of headphones in the top right corner. Audiobooks
that are currently available will appear with black
headphones, whereas audiobooks with a grey headphone
symbol are unavailable but can be placed on hold. To only
see titles that are available now, choose ‘Available Now’ from
the menu on the left of the page.
Step 6: Check out
Once you’ve found an available audiobook you would like,
click the red ‘Borrow’ button to add it to your checkouts. You
can view your checkouts by clicking the person icon at the top
of the screen.
Step 7: Download the book to OverDrive Media Console
Click the ‘Download’ button next to your book. The audiobook
will download, and the file can be found in your browser
downloads folder, or by either finding the download on the
bottom or top of your browser page. Click to open the
audiobook file and it should automatically direct to OverDrive
Media Console .
Step 8: Access the audiobook in OverDrive Media Console
A dialogue will appear in the OverDrive Media Console
program prompting you to download the audiobook. Click
‘OK’, and the audiobook will begin download. Make sure that
all sections of the book are selected, and click ‘OK’ again to
begin downloading your audiobook to your computer. You
will see a progress bar in the bottom right corner of OverDrive
Media Console.
Step 9: Transfer your audiobook to your device
Make sure your device is connected to your computer via USB
and that your device is powered on. Select the audiobook title
you want to transfer, and then click the Transfer button at the
top of the media console. Follow the onscreen prompts.
(Note: if you are downloading to an iPod you will need to
have the latest version of iTunes downloaded onto your
computer.
Return a book early (Optional)
You are able to return your audiobook early on a PC device.
THIS OPTION IS NOT AVAILABLE TO MAC USERS. To return
your book, you must do so using OverDrive Media Console.
Select the audiobook you would like to return, and then click
the ‘Delete’ button at the top of the media console. A dialog
box will appear. Select “Return/Delete”.
NOTE: You do not need to return books early as they will
automatically return after your set lending period is up. You
can only have 5 digital items out at a time, so returning items
early frees up that limit and makes that item available to
others for check out.
Changing lending period for ebooks
You can check out audiobooks for 7, 14, or 21 days.
Note: You need to change your lending period before you
download your audiobooks for it to take effect.

2. Tap the Account icon (the person icon) and sign in.
3. Tap the Settings icon (the cogs icon)
4. Select your default lending period and tap Done.
