ACADEMY OF OUR LADY NEWSLETTER Happy autumn to everyone! The past two months have been filled with many creative presentations to our students! In preparation for the upcoming Fall Social on November 12th, students have been busy working on collaborative art projects focusing on a variety of different artists. Our wonderful Art Docents have visited the classrooms to discuss the specific artists that the children have been emulating in their designs. Discussions have ranged from pop art, mixed media, collage and wax painting. The sixth graders discussed artist Rene Magritte’s distinct style and created their own “Listening Room” representation using mixed media to convey a feeling in the spirit of Magritte’s work. Below is a sampling of three unique works by the children. The original by Margritte is in the upper corner. NOVEMBER 2016 We are so grateful to the Home School Association for their continued support of TICTOC! We are also very thankful for the following parents who have signed up to be art docents for this school year: Lisa Aninos Stacey Barsa Stephanie Budelman Mary Denio Michelle Drosselmeier Andrea Falcone Laurie Gallo Joanna Grabowska-Cetina Jessica Horne Laura Kramer Jackie Linares-Grae Sarah Mansson Adrienne Messere Shirley Mitri Heather Nalbandian Suzanne O’Shea Cathy Quinn Theresa Roberts Monika Rocks Amy Sardy We sincerely appreciate the time they give to our students and for sharing their knowledge of art and culture with our children. They are a true gift to our school! [THE WEEK AHEAD] On October 7th, students from Academy of Our Lady participated in a TIC TOC trip to Glassworks in Morristown, NJ to learn about glass fusion art. Glass fusing is a technique used to join glass pieces together to create art. Glass is first fitted together or overlapped to form unique designs and then melted at a high temperature in a kiln. The children learned how to cut glass using a scoring tool with a carbide wheel. Then, working with grozer pliers, they were able to customize glass shapes to use in their unique, one-of-a-kind projects. SAVE THE DATE! Who hasn’t dreamed of being on a real game show? Now is your chance! The Brain Wash Game Shows is as close to being on a real TV game show as you can get. Real contestant podiums with flashing lights, digital scoring and a lightning fast "Lockout System" keeps the action going and the adrenaline pumping! A great event for the whole family! Be part of the excitement on Sunday, November 20th at Ben Franklin Middle School in Ridgewood. Show starts at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $12. For details go to www.tictoc.org.
