Becomes Home Secretary.

Re-joins the Conservative Party after falling out with the
Liberals.

Becomes Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Joins army after military college. Sees action in India and
in Sudan at the Battle of Omdurman.
1895
Marries Clementine Hozier.
1904
Becomes Conservative MP for Oldham, interested in social
reform.
1910
Conservatives are defeated in general election and Churchill
loses his seat.
1925
Re-joins army when war breaks out in Europe. In 1917 is
appointed Minister of Munitions.

Nazi Party rises to power in Germany and begins its quest
to gain control of Europe. Churchill campaigns for rearmament.
3rd September1939
The end of the war in Europe (VE day). Churchill is
celebrated as the PM who helped Britain to win WWII.
1946
Dies at home in Hyde Park Gate, London.
1953
Is elected as Prime Minister for second time!
1940 - 1945
Becomes Leader of the Opposition. Makes his famous
speech in US about the “iron curtain” descending across
Europe.
1933 - 1938
Is knighted and becomes Sir Winston Churchill.
July 1945
Britain declares war on Germany.
10th May 1940
Gives his most famous speech: ‘Their finest hour’
24th January 1965
Churchill forges important alliances and boosts morale with
powerful speeches.
1955
Retires as Prime Minister but remains an MP.
October 1951
Chamberlain resigns as Prime Minister and Churchill is
appointed Prime Minister by King George VI.
