Teacher of English (Maternity cover from August to mid-December)
Please note that applicants must already be a permanent Hong Kong resident OR possess a valid visa
to work in Hong Kong and have registered as a teacher in Hong Kong. Applicants should also note that
temporary contracts are not supported by the ESF benefit package.
An opportunity arises for a strong English teacher to join our Team to cover for a maternity leave during
the Term 1 from August to December 2017.
The English teaching team at South Island is a happy and well-motivated group of professionals. It is a
large, collaborative team which works in harmony with the wider aspirations of pedagogy across the
curriculum. There is a good balance in the team of youth and experience.
The examination curriculum offered is based around IGCSE English Language, IGCSE World Literature, IB
English Language and Literature and IB English Literature. Lower down the school in Years 7, 8 and 9,
English is discrete and loosely modeled around the English National Curriculum framework. We work with
a variety of learners, not all of whom have English as a first language - so the work of the English Team is
absolutely critical to opening up access to the curriculum in all areas. As part of our inclusive approach to
learning, all classes are taught in mixed ability groupings.
An ability to work immediately with IB classes would be an advantage. All students and teachers have
MacBooks and the use of ICT is embedded and well developed through our approaches to pedagogy.
