Cobourg is a town of 5,100 population, located
on the north shore of Lake Ontario, 70 miles
east of Toronto. Its history dates back to the
latter part of the 18th century when the first
settlers were United Empire Loyalists. Its importance as a port was established early; and
with the opening up of the country in the Rice
Lake region, 12 miles north, all the products of
farm, forest and mine were brought to Cobourg
for shipment by water to the larger markets of
.the country. Cobourg has always been one of
the most important ports on Lake Ontario.
Education in Ontario received its first great
impetus in the establishing at Cobourg, in 1833,
of the school which later became Victoria College
-the
Alma Mater of thousands of our leading
Canadians of the past and present.
Although known far and wide as a town of
beautiful homes, Cobourg has, for some years,
attracted the attention of industry and we are
setting forth some of its advantages in this brief
summary.
Cobourg is served directly by the two transcontinental railways. With the business public
of Cobourg enjoying the advantages of coast to
coast transportation,
the town is, in peacetime,
in direct contact with the important centres of
Europe and the Far East, served by Canadian
Pacific ships plying the Atlantic and the Pacific.
With a fine deep-water harbour, open all year,
Cobourg is a Customs Port of Entry. Steamship
connections with Rochester, 55 miles; Toronto,
70 miles; Montreal and principal United States
and Canadian ports, exist, providing an industrial focal point interesting to the progressive
business executive. In addition, three car ferries
provide daily, all-year service to Rochester,
carrying twenty-eight loaded cars. Supplementing the freight service afforded by these ferries,
each vessel will accommodate about 1,000 passengers. They have been known to bring as many
as 70,000 persons to Cobourg during the season.
Educational facilities are adequate and most
excellent. There are three Primary Schools (two
Public and one Separate), well-equipped with an
. active staff thoroughly qualified for the tutoring
of children during their most formative years.
The Collegiate Institute
gives an excellent
course, and on its completion the graduates have
University. entrance standing or better. "Hatfield
Hall," a private finishing school for young ladies,
is most favourably known and well attended.
Public parks provide ample space and equipment for seasonal outdoor activities. Victoria
Park is a modern park with a beautiful sandy
bathing beach. It attracts thousands of visitors
during the season who enjoy the invigorating
freshness of a swim in Lake Ontario. Lawn bowl-

In Cobourg, where a fine community atmosphere prevails, there lives a desirable class of home-owning, satisfied mechanics and labourers,
trained in a diversity of crafts. Labour troubles
are unknown. Beautiful parks, fine bathing
beaches and beautiful homes all go to make the
town a delightful place in which to locate.
Cobourg possesses many attractive industrial
sites which may be served by the Canadian
Pacific Railway. Several of these areas are adjacent to Lake Ontario. To the industrialist desiring a location in a well-developed municipality,
it has much to offer. The Industrial Development
Department of the Canadian Pacific Railway,
Montreal, will welcome your inquiry.
