Feeling like I`m part of something bigger moves - EON-UK

Undergraduate Schemes 2017
Feeling like I’m part
of something bigger
moves me on
Helping our customers.
We’re on it.
It’s all about movement. Progress. Coming
up with brighter ideas than anyone else.
Then acting on them. For the customer.
This is the new world of energy. Our world.
We all come to it for our own reasons,
because we all come from different
backgrounds. But one thing’s the same
for all of us. We know we’re part of
something bigger. Greener. Smarter.
It’s a feeling you’ll experience for yourself.
Whether you’re with us for 10 weeks or 48,
you’ll see how everything is in constant
motion. Bringing you into contact with new
experiences and new people, every day.
A brief introduction
Big and small. Simple and complex. Everything we
do, we do for the people who use our energy. Our
work affects how they go about their lives, so we
make sure our impact is a positive one.
We make bills easy to understand. We take the lead
in renewable energy and develop technologies
that no one’s seen before. We come up with bright
ideas for energy that are cheaper, cleaner and more
reliable. And it’s all done with the customer in mind.
Undergraduate Schemes
When you opt for an E.ON scheme, you’re opting for
an insight into one of the world’s most complex and
fluid industries. Energy.
You can come to us for 10 weeks during the summer
or jump in for an entire year. Either way, you’ll go
back to university with your eyes well and truly
opened. About what we do and why. About yourself
and the things you’re capable of. About what it
means to be part of something really, really big.
We offer schemes across the spectrum of
commercial and technical disciplines. Each has its
own set of challenges, but they all bring you into
contact with talented colleagues, some of whom will
act as a mentor. Above all, each is organised in such
a way as to guarantee the most valuable thing of all.

Sam Butcher
Year in Industry, Customer Operations
“I applied for a few different placements but E.ON
really stood out. It’s a large, successful company.
And my placement involved moving department
every three months, so I experienced a lot of
different areas.
Currently, I’m talking to customers on the phones.
What surprises me with E.ON is how much they do
to help customers. Whether it’s offering general
advice or different ways to save money – like the
E.ON Energy Fund.
My best customer story so far is about a lady who
was struggling a bit financially. At the start of
the call, she was quite distressed. But we did as
much as we possibly could to help. And by the end,
she was very grateful and really happy. That was
extremely rewarding.
What moves me on are different challenges I face.
I do my best to meet them all and embrace every
opportunity that’s out there, because there’s so
much. Just be really open – say yes.”

Year in Industry, E.ON Climate & Renewables
“I applied because I wanted to learn about
offshore wind energy. I’ve always been interested
in renewables, and knew I could develop a great
career in this field with E.ON.
Day-to-day, my job is very varied. Basically, I help to
make wind farms safer, improve performance and
reduce the cost of wind energy. This helps keep
our customers’ bills low, and also contributes to
reducing carbon emissions.
What moves me on is my passion for renewable
energy. Every day, I learn something new. I often
go away and do research in my own time, because I
find it so fascinating. This placement has given me
a lot of knowledge and better people skills. It has
really set me up for a long-term career with E.ON.”

Summer Placement, HR
“I really wanted to utilise the summer between
my second and third year at university. I was keen
to work in a fast-paced, exciting environment.
This scheme offered an incredible opportunity
to gain some valuable experience within a global
company, and to build on my own competencies
at the same time.
Every day is so different. Right now, I’m focusing
on how we can best utilise the new social media
platform Connect, and increase the accessibility
of Learning & Development to the business.
Ultimately, I’m helping our customers with a tool
that enhances their understanding.
When it comes to achievements, I’ve really
underestimated my capabilities. I hadn’t expected to
come up with the level of work I have. It’s exceeded
both mine and my manager’s expectations.
The main challenge is getting my head around the
scale of the projects we actually work on. It can feel
quite daunting. But I’ve overcome this by getting
out there and talking to key stakeholders, spending
time really getting a feel for the business.
When I found out
I’d got onto the
programme, it was the
best day of my life!
❝

❞
What moves me on is knowing that the
work I do has impact and real value on my
personal development, on the team and on
the wider business.
The scheme has really helped open doors for me.
I’ve just been invited to the fast-track graduate
assessment centre. And I know it’s a really
valuable experience for a future career at E.ON.”
❞
Reema Iqbal
“My career with E.ON began last year when I did
a year in industry placement. From the start,
E.ON’s placement stood out from the crowd to
me. It seemed to offer more responsibilities and
opportunities. And I’m glad to say I wasn’t wrong.
As part of the Market Analysis team, I was involved
in interesting projects that were of real value.
I presented my work to teams across the business
– and even presented to the Board! I was also lucky
enough to have the chance to travel to our offices
in Germany.
Throughout the year, I was having conversations
about my interest in the graduate programme.
Thankfully, my manager was impressed with my
work, and this led to a recommendation and an
invitation to an assessment centre. When I found
out I’d got onto the programme, it was the best
day of my life!”

Candidate
Experience Award
An upgrade to the Amrumbank West
wind farm in the North Sea to 302MW
pushed our net investment in renewable
energy above the €10 billion mark.
How to apply
We’ve made our application and selection process as intuitive and fair as possible. Graduates seem to
appreciate it too. Last year, we won a Candidate Experience Award for how we treat our job candidates,
with the majority of respondents giving our application a four- or five-star rating.
Online application
As part of the online application you’ll be asked a series of situational
judgement questions. We’ll want to know how you work within a team,
and why you’d like to take that next step with us.
Online ability tests
If we like what we see in your application, we’ll send you a link to
complete a series of ability tests which will include verbal and
numerical reasoning.
Interview
If you’ve impressed us in the tests, we’ll call you for a telephone
or face-to-face interview, so we can get to know you better.
Selection event
Then we’ll put you through your paces at our assessment centre.
It’ll give you a feel for what life’s like working with us.
Offer
Feedback
If you’re successful and it’s the last selection event for your scheme,
we’ll make you an offer within a week of your selection event.
All candidates who attend this event are offered the opportunity to
receive feedback.
Ready to make an application?
Visit eon-careers.com/graduates to get the ball rolling.
The closing date for undergraduate applications is 31 December 2016.
However, we strongly advise you to apply well in advance of this date.
Our schemes attract great interest and we begin assessing candidates
in our assessment centres in January. This means we may have to close
a scheme early if all the places are filled.
