First Week of Lent Basketball / Cheerleaders A great big thank you is

February 20, 2013
First Week of Lent What do we do when we’re facing an upcoming
big event, celebration, or special occasion in our
lives? We prepare for it. Holy Week and Easter
are “big events” in the liturgical year of the
Church and in the spiritual life of a Christian.
So, as Christians, we prepare spiritually for
these through the forty days of Lent. This means
that, during Lent, we rededicate ourselves to
prayer.
Upcoming Events… Thursday 2/21 • Eagle’s Nest Open Friday 2/22 • Popcorn 25¢ • Grade 6 NU Day Basket Donation Winners Feb. 25 - March 1 Being a parent, guardian, or teacher is a holy ministry. We have a
• No School sacred responsibility to share our faith with our children. One way is

are as many ways to pray as there are prayers. Dinnertime,

• Variety Show & enliven a tradition of family prayer. If we want our children to know
Grinder Night God and not just know about Him, we need to teach them to pray and
pray with them. As we help children talk with God, we help them become
truly aware of God's loving presence in their lives.
Basketball / Cheerleaders
A great big thank you is sent to the school’s Athletic Director, Mrs. Dionne, and all our coaches for a great season. Your commitment to our students has not gone unnoticed and is sincerely appreciated! Basketball Uniforms – All uniforms must be returned to the main office. Thank you! Parish Support Form ~ Due Green parish support (subsidy) forms that were part of the registration packet are due back to school by March 1st. If you received tuition support from the same parish last year, you do not need to take the form to your pastor (we get a list from the parish). If you did not receive support last year or if you changed parishes, you must bring the form to your parish for signature. To quality you must meet all three of the minimum Diocesan Support Criteria which include: 1. registration in a parish or mission; 2. contributor of record in a parish or mission; 3. active participation in the life of a parish or mission. Remember, the diocesan support program is for grades 1-6 only - there is no supported student rate for students in Pre-K or K. Reminders:
Please turn in all Box Tops before vacation! We will be sending them to General Mills and receiving a check for our school. Thank you for supporting our school! The First Graders have been busy skip counting
and counting money. They were recently
introduced to a 100 chart and are having fun
finding ways to count to 100. In Social Studies
they are reading about
saving, goods, services,
trading, buying and
selling. We are
discovering that many of
our goods, like,
strawberries come to us
all the way from
countries like Argentina.
First grade has also been
very busy exploring the
world of animals. We first learned the
classification of animals so now we are learning
about some of their characteristics. For example,
mammals have fur or hair. During the season of
Lent our class is going to practice "filling our
buckets." This project began with the story Have
You Filled a Bucket Today? Our goal is to develop
some positive habits that show kindness,
appreciation and compassion. Hopefully these
habits will continue long past the Lenten and
Easter season. God Bless.

The fifth graders have been busy completing
their science fair experiments following the
scientific method. They enjoyed completing our
in-class sample experiment about which type of
chocolate melts faster on
the radiator. In religion,
the fifth graders have been
learning about grace and
how grace is received
through the sacraments.
We have been focused on
learning about Baptism and
Confirmation. They have also learned about
what the fruits of the
spirit are and how
they can receive them.
They have even
created a fruits of the
spirit basket. The
fifth graders are
almost ready to show
everyone their dance
to “Energy & Me” at
the variety show. Be
there to check them out!
