Locate the thirteen original colonies on a U.S. map. 3. Describe the effects that the Jamestown settlement had on the new settlers. 4. Explain the significance of the Powhatan Confederacy. a. Describe the relationship between the settlers and the Powhatan Indians. 5. Understand and describe what occurred during Bacon’s Rebellion. a. Develop conclusions about how life felt during the time of Bacon’s Rebellion. 6. Define what a Puritan is. 7. Identify why the Pilgrims fled England. 8. Understand the significance of Plymouth Rock. a. The student should be able to relate this to a present-day tradition. 9. Describe the relationship between Church and State in the New England Colonies. 10. Identify the key reason why education was important. a. The student should be able to formulate their own point of view on this. 11. Describe why Maryland was known as “Tolerant Maryland.” a. Identify the importance of the Maryland colony. 12. Explain why South Carolina needed slaves. 13. Identify why Pennsylvania was founded. 14. Identify how the population in Pennsylvania grew so fast.
