Student Progress Report 2
Assessment advice for Year 11
parents and students
by Scott Thomas
Assistant Principal KS4 Raising Standards
January 2017
Dear Parents / Carers
Re: Up-coming Assessment weeks Key Stage 4 Year 11.
I am writing to give you advanced notice about the assessment weeks that are coming up for your son/daughter in
all subject areas. These will be between the week of the 20th February and the week of the 27th February 2017.
The assessments will be marked and Dedicated Improvement Time (DIT) will be provided in the week of the 20th
March 2017. This means that students will be able to work on the targets that they have been provided with by
their teacher to improve their learning on their original assessments.
In support of the assessment weeks a number of things will be provided by the school:
1. An Assessment Manifest (this explains what students need to revise).
2. Dedicated class revision time.
3. Homework revision will be set.
We also ask that you can support your son/daughter by making sure that they have received the support that has
been identified above.
It is imperative that your son/daughter is well prepared for their assessments so that they can perform their very
best. All assessments link to our intervention programme which has proven to be highly successful in raising
student’s grades throughout the year.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you again for supporting the school in raising your child’s attainment
still further. If there is any way we can support your son/daughter further with their assessment preparation
please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Stephen the Head of years 10-11 on [email protected]
or myself on [email protected].
Yours faithfully
Scott Thomas

Controlled Assessment
Analysis of Performance
 Application of rules, Regulations, scoring system and terminology
 Observation and analysis of a player, identifying areas of strength and improvement. Making relevant
suggestions on how to improve
 Evaluation on own performance, linking to a comparison to another athlete
 Preparation for strategies, tactics and practices to influence performance
PEP-Designing a Personal Exercise Programme that will run for six weeks. The aim of this assessment is to show
competency in the following areas.
 Preparation for planning, programming and training
Show clear understanding of appropriate procedures to follow prior to planning a PEP, this will require
consideration of prerequisites such as profiling, assessment questionnaires and relevant testing
 Components of fitness and the relative importance of these components in physical activity and sport
Student need to demonstrate full understanding of the different components of fitness, both health and skill
related and consider the impact their fitness level has on performance.
 Fitness tests – theory and practice
Ability to set up, carry out and review fitness test, use data to draw valid conclusions and influence planning and
training. Students will be able to evaluate the testing protocols and the importance for fair testing.
 Principles of training
Clear knowledge of the FITT and SPORT principles applied to training. Explaining how each one can be applied and
manipulated to alter the system being training or the desired outcome.
 Methods of training for specific components of fitness, physical activity and sport
Can link methods of training to specific components of fitness (Fartlek, Continuous, Interval, Resistance, Flexibility,
SAQ), carry out appropriate methods of training with focus on quality of exercise to enable adaptation passed a
plateau.
 Long term training effects
Can describe the effects specific methods of training will have on the trained components (hypertrophy, cardiac
output, increased stroke volume, lower resting HR, increased strength) as well as negatives effect from not
following appropriate methods or correct application of training principles.
 Review of PEP
Can critically evaluate the process the student followed, drawing valid conclusion to the results and how the
programme led to the results.
 Identification of injury, prevention, treatment and common sports injuries
Can justify the need for prevention training to reduce the risk of injury, how to recognise injures and appropriate
methods of treatment (RICE) and rehabilitation (time, mobility).
 Performance enhancing drugs
Can identify the variety of performance enhancing drugs (Peptide hormones, Anabolic steroids, stimulants and
diuretics) stating how the impact on performance and the side effects.
Exam preparations: all previously covered content
 The Cardiorespiratory system
 The Musculoskeletal system
 Reasons to participate in sport
