Ethel Evelyn Jones Berryman, 94, of Elberon passed away
Monday, June 30, 2014 at her home surrounded by her
family. Born March 11, 1920 on Warrique Plantation,
Southampton County, she was the youngest daughter of the
late Sidney Johnson Jones and Elsie Maude Maury Jones.
Her family moved to Grayland in Surry County where she
attended Claremont Elementary School and later to the King
Family Plantation where she attended Dendron High School.
Mrs. Berryman met and married her husband of 59 years, the
late Ernest Mooring Berryman and made her final move to
Beechland where she would spend her life taking care of her
husband, raising her family and making her house a home.
She loved to cook and have family dinners, especially on Sunday. Mrs. Berryman was a member of Oak
Grove United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School as well as serving in many other capacities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her siblings, Violet Lowe, Margaret Bell, Neil
Jones, Ruth Lowe, Dennis Jones and Bertha Simms. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Darlene B.
Richards of Surry; her son, E. Mac Berryman and his wife, Joanie of Elberon; grandchildren, Bobby Richards
and his wife, Stacey of Elberon, Sherri R. Brittle and her husband, Smokey of Wakefield, Don Richards and
his wife, Amy of Surry, Melissa Berryman and her husband, Bryan Chadwick of Atlantic Beach, NC, Steve
Berryman and his wife, Jordan of Surry and Lisa Trombley and her husband, David of Surry; eleven greatgrandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be
held at 10:00 am Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Surry with Rev.
Ray Rowland officiating. After the service the family will receive friends at the home on 2200 Golden Hill Road
Elberon, VA 23846. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Berryman's memory to the
