I understand that failure by me or my child to adhere to these policies could result in dismissal from the squad. _____________________________________ Parent Signature _____________________________________ Date 2017-2018 Rules for BLAZER GIRLS Purpose The objective of the Tolton Catholic High School Blazer Girls squad is to effectively execute a school spirit program that supports the athletic teams and promotes the school itself. Blazer Girls will serve as positive role models and leaders for TCHS and should promote sportsmanship within our school and among other schools. The highest priority should be to display and encourage spirit and pride for TCHS. Squad Members and Practices The squad will perform at Varsity football and Boys Varsity basketball games, pep rally events, and competitions. If a member of a squad is removed from a position, a replacement may be determined by the coach, Athletic Director, and Principal. Practices and Games The Blazer Girls will have practices each week. A tentative schedule will be given out at the beginning of each month. All practices are mandatory unless it is discussed before time. Additional practices may be added when needed. You will also be given a schedule at the beginning of the each season, and Blazer Girls will be expected to be present at ALL home games. . Attendance/Absences ABSENCES CAN BE THE DOWNFALL OF A GREAT DANCE SQUAD! If one or more squad members are absent from a practice or game, the other members are forced to make last minute changes. This can be stressful to squad members. You will be expected to be at all games and practices. Other activities and appointments, etc. must not interfere with The Blazer Girls when at all possible. If you commit to Blazer Girls you are committing to attend every game. Unexcused absences are those caused by anything other than illness or family emergencies. In addition, just because a dancer asks to be excused doesn’t mean that the excuse will be granted. If you are ill or have a family emergency, the coach needs to be notified by a parent or guardian in order for this absence to be excused. Please notify the coach before the absence or as soon after as possible; only under extreme circumstances will prior notice not be expected. Please call or text Coach Susan (573) 999-2133 to notify me of any excused absences. If I’m unavailable, please leave a message. You may also contact Coach Shelby (636) 542-2327 or Coach Elise (314) 662-4228. As stated in the Guidelines for Tolton Athletes, students must be present half the school day to be eligible for practices and games scheduled for that day. Read more about Missing Practice and the Demerit System below Grades Because Blazer Girls’ are students first and athletes second, progress reports will be turned to the athletic director so he can monitor academic progress. If at any time you have a D in a class, you will be required to attend a 1 hour study hall, and failure to attend study hall will result in benching. Two or more F’s/failing grades will result in ineligibility of dancing at any game/competition. You can however continue to practice. Uniforms Uniforms are issued by the school and are property of the TCHS Athletic Department. If for at any reason a Blazer Girl quits or is dismissed, she is expected to return all uniforms/equipment within five days of the termination. Washing instructions will be provided when uniforms are distributed. At the end of basketball season, uniforms are to be turned in dry-cleaned. All altered uniforms must be restored to their original size before being turned in at the end of the dance season. Damaged or lost uniforms will be replaced by the dancer. Expected Behavior All Tolton Catholic High School guidelines must be followed at all times. Demerits will be issued for misbehavior or poor conduct Promote a positive image for the school community—your peers, parents, teachers, and community members While representing TCHS, dancers must not: Drink alcoholic beverages Use controlled substances Use tobacco products Show unsportsmanlike conduct Use profanity Show displays of affection Be academically dishonest. Attend all practices and games. Your attitude and ability to work with different personalities must be exceptional. Lying or fabricating the truth will not be tolerated and can result in immediate termination from the squad. Part of a coach’s job is to know where you are at all times during practices, games, and special events. Consequences will be issued for failure to follow the coach’s direction or to stay in assigned areas during events. While safety is our number one goal, please understand that you should expect bumps, bruises, and other occasional minor injuries. This is all part of dancing. Blazer Girls can not wear or loan TCHS Blazer Girls’ uniforms/outfits when attending non-dancing activities. All official Blazer Girl decisions and activities will be made by the coaching staff. All coaches and captains are to be given respect and cooperation by dancers and parents at all times. Lack of respect will not be tolerated and can be grounds for dismissal. Missing Practice A lot of time is spent choreographing, learning, and practicing the routines. We realize dancers are involved in other activities, however, we expect that the dance team take priority over other extracurricular activities. When girls miss practice, it is unfair to the rest of the team and requires formation changes to be made. If a dancer misses practice at any time the week of any performance (football halftime show, pep rally, competition, etc.), the dancer may not perform at that event. However, they are still expected to be present at the event and sit with the squad in uniform. A *demerit is given for each practice missed. *Demerit System In order for our team to build a long-lasting legacy that promotes dance, sisterhood, leadership, and teamwork, we must set expectations for each member of the squad. We expect for dancers to participate at every practice, performance as well as fundraiser (Jr. Blazer Girl clinic). A demerit is given for each practice, performance, or fundraiser missed. A demerit can also be given for poor attitudes, unacceptable behavior (on and off the field), failing grades, or if a dancer is having issues with responsibility (frequently forgets shoes and other attire, routinely shows up late). If a dancer receives three demerits, the coaches will have a mandatory meeting with the parents and the dancer faces being benched from participating in a competition or receives a comparable reprimand. If a dancer reaches 6 demerits, they are disqualified from participating on the squad. As mentioned previously, dance takes priority over any other extracurricular activity. However, living a life of faith and being kind and respectful to all is of most importance, followed by being a good student. *Being in correct uniform means wearing the appropriate uniform—sports bra, bloomers, hair ribbon, socks, shoes, determined makeup, having hair pulled up. Complete uniform also means wearing no jewelry or fingernail polish. Your nails must be trimmed short, and no acrylic nails or tips will be worn. Coaches reserve the right to make changes/additions to the rules as needed. In addition, if you have any questions or concerns, please respect the following chain of command: Blazer Girl Coaches, Coach Sasser, Athletic Director, School Principal.
