The highlight of the day! Come and explore all
the school projects on display!
Design and Make - Workshop
T107, Tara Building
The workshops will involve creating a
marshmallow catapult that will launch a minimarshmallow. The children will become familiar
with the stages in the design and making process,
practice the skills involved in the design and
making process. The children will then test their
designs through a variety of different challenges:
Challenge 1: Accuracy; Challenge 2: Power; and
Challenge 3: Power & Tower.
Biodiversity in the Backgarden
T1, Tailteann Building
Dale Treadwell, RTEJR resident nature guy, takes
us on a journey through the wildlife found in our
own backgardens. Adults and children alike will
be captivated by his stories and might also get to
meet some creepy crawly friends along the way.

This interactive show asks the audience to predict
the outcome of fun, everyday experiments. With
opportunities for participation and encouraging
discussion and sharing of knowledge, this show
encourages and promotes curiosity at every age.
My Favourite Whale

Oceanographer and marine conservationist
Russell Arnott presents his case for what he thinks
is the best whale ever. Chock full of fascinating
ocean facts and exciting demonstrations, you’ll
never look at whales the same way again!
Big, Bold, Hot and Cold

Big, Bold, Hot and Cold is an explosive show,
working its way through the most exciting
science demonstrations to showcase the “wow”
in science. This electrifying interactive show
takes the audience through a range of fascinating
physics and chemistry demonstrations.

Explore the world of maths and science
through a variety of puzzles and investigations.
The activities will draw on children’s curiosity
through interactive puzzles, brainteasers and an
engaging STEM-trail inside the Tailteann Building.

Featuring bottomless buckets, musical aluminium
bars, boomerang hula-hoops and the smallest

Exploring Materials - Workshop
T101, Tara Building
What are materials? That stuff that surrounds
us, makes up our everyday lives, and that we
sometimes take for granted? In this workshop we
will explore the properties of everyday materials
and how we can harness those properties to make
new materials for the future. Discover some very
small materials that researchers at Amber, TCD
are using to make a very big impact.
Fantastic Physics
T118, Tara Building
During this fun, interactive show we will check
out the physics of a bed of nails, look at some
whacky properties of magnetism and prove that
static electricity is a form of energy. We will also
investigate what frogs have in common with
electricity and even make a human battery!

Irish Aid Drumming Workshops & Quiz
Student’s Union, Tara Building
Learn how to play an African beat on African
drums at this Irish Aid drumming workshop. Irish
Aid works to fight poverty in some of the poorest
countries in the world, on behalf of the Irish people.
Workshops to take place at: 11am, 12.15pm,
1.30pm & 2.30pm - participation will be granted on
a first-come-first-served basis. Please ask at the
Registration Desk for information about how to
sign up. Enter our quiz - on your own or with your
friends – from information displayed at the Irish Aid
Drumming Workshop area and win a goody bag!
Junior Einstein’s Science Show
The Forum, Tara Building
A large range of fantastic experiments will be on
display exploring questions such as ‘Why do fish
feel slimy?’ and ‘Do snails eat their own slime?’.
Featuring light sabres, electrocuting Barbie,
elephant toothpaste and hurricanes in a bottle
this show is not to be missed.
Important Information for Exhibiting and Visiting Schools
Included in your registration pack you will find
a wristband for every person in your group –
children and adults alike. Each person attending
the Fair must wear their wristband at all times to
access the wonderful shows and workshops taking
place at the RDS Primary Science Fair Limerick.

if your wristband is RED, please follow the RED
schedule, and so on.
Each group of children will require an accompanying
adult from their school with them at all times.
All students from exhibiting schools must return to
the Projects Exhibition in T3 at 2.30pm to receive
feedback from the RDS Primary Science Fair judges.

corresponds with a particular schedule which
indicates the shows you are allocated to and

Note: If you are attending as a member of the public you may create your own schedule and attend any
show you wish. A number of seats will be available in each show at each time slot, however they will be

project within our science and technology
work programme. It is underpinned
by the RDS STEM Learning project,
which aims to support primary school
teachers to integrate science, technology,
engineering and mathematics into their
classroom practice.
