DETOXIFICATION- DECONTAMINATION EBOLA In order to avoid, counter and mitigate risks originating from or associated with the biological Ebola virus, it is necessary to undertake fast, timely and appropriate decontamination and sanitisation of all materials and vehicles which may have been contaminated by the deadly virus. Our Cristanini S.p.A CBRN Detoxification & Decontamination products and equipment provide safe, effective solutions to effectively detoxify and decontaminate the biological threat of Ebola. When used in the appropriare manner the threat of biological contamination by the Ebola virus may be mitigated or rduced through a combination of the chemical action of a decontaminant/detoxifying product and the thermal action of saturated steam (with temperatures up to 180°C). Steam is recommended in particular for the decontamination and sanitation of essential equipment such as, ambulances (internally and externally without instruments on board) and of operationally essential equipment such as stretchers which, may be used by authorities, health, civil responders or humantitarian aid workers to assist in transporting highly infective patients. The following charts detail our recomended effective soultions using the Cristanini S.p.A CBRN Detoxification/ Decontamination equipment and product range. CHEMICAL ACTION: BX24 BX24 has been tested both against Biological Warfare Agents (BWA, Technical documents UP 1194-10841085-927) and pathogenic strains of veterinary origin (Technical documents UP 1239-1260-1422) in conformity with the technical standards of the European Union in relation to the disinfection and sanitisation of Chemical & Biological threats in both hazardous and nonhazardous environments. As a single product, BX24 provides , the highly effective solution for the detoxification and chemical neutralisation of aggressive agents by oxidation and hydrolysis. BX24 affords capability to neutralise, destroy or inactivate a wide spectrum of pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, spores and fungi. This process is undertaken by BX24 directly attacking the structure of the microorganism. The effectiveness BX24 against Ebola virus is proven and supported by the significant test data available. It is advised to apply BX24 to surfaces and objects contaminated, using both the portable decontamination equipment (PSDS 1.5 and PSDS 10MIL) and the larger autonomous, selfdecontaminating systems (Sanijet C.921). THERMAL ACTION : SATURATED STEAM The action of rinsing the detoxified or decontaminated solution applied on the contaminated surface should be carried out using steam. This will provide the thermal action that can assist and complete the chemical action exerted by the product used to detoxify or decontaminate. In particular, Ebolavirus commonly presents a significant vulnerability to high temperatures (thermolabile), and the virus becomes inactive if heated to 60 ° for a time of 3060 minutes, or when subjected to temperatures higher than 100 ° for 5 minutes. Steam at 180 ° C is required to perform such sanitising operations and should be applied directly onto contaminated surfaces using a steam lance or through use of field tents for the decontamination of materials. Such capability is effectively provided by our autonomous large capacity decontamination system the Sanijet C.921. It is important that the decontamination of equipment and sensitive surfaces is also considered. It is therefore recomended that, sensitve medical equipment and accessories used in places such as permanent or temporary hospitals or medical centres or sensitive equipment utilised on board ambulances is decontaminated following contact with or contamination by the Ebola virus in order to safely reduce levels contamination; prevent spread or cross- contamination. All Life- saving or operational equipment such as, Computers, Mobile Phones, Detection, Monitoring and Sampling equipment should be decontaminated. Our SX34 Decontamination system specifically designed for use on sensitive equipment provides effective capability to undertake decontamination of such equipment. TYPE: SYSTEMS AND SENSITIVE MATERIAL (ES .: MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, RADIO, DETECTOR): BX24/ SX34 SX34 has been tested against Biological Warfare Agents (BWA, Technical document UP1327). This operation may not be applicable on a large scale by unskilled operators. However, generally, in order to prevent contamination and limit the effects of contamination, equipment should be covered with sheeting/protective films in order to avoid contamination, thus reducing areas of exposure to contamination. This assists protection and operational effectiveness of the equipment (e.g electrodes of portable defibrillators and ECG equipment). By following this process it is possible to effectively use our Manportable decontamination systems PSDS 1,5MIL and/or PSDS 10ml in order to decontaminate the cover or sheeting applied prior to removing it and then alowing the operator to undertake effective decontamination of sensitive items using our SX34 system on the parts of the equipment that remain directly exposed to contamination. RECOMMENDED PRODUCT: TO BE USED ON: Areas designated to accept the arrival of the emergency vehicles (areas in front of the emergency room) and areas receiving laboratory samples should be considered contaminated and therefore need to be regularly decontaminated. For this process we recommend use our BX24 detoxifying product. In order to, safely provide and support the required decontamination of effected people within communities or operational personnel following an epidemic outbreak such as the Ebola crisis, each hospital or temporary medical facility should maintain the capability through the deployment of suitableshower- system tents. Our Multi-purpose inflatable decontamination/detoxification station, provides the in order to undertake and effectively manage required mass decontamination of people (Technical Information UP 1103).
