IoT Interoperability – solved. Now we need your help…
When we decided to kick off connctd, we really wanted to be sure that we can have a valid contribution to the
biggest problem in the 4th wave of industrial revolution: Solving the interoperability challenge in IoT. So, we
took our time to really think it through. And: We solved it.
McKinsey put a price tag on this solution: 40% of what is estimated to be a USD 11 trillion opportunity – USD
4.5 trillion to interoperate things globally. It is still unclear, whether you will adopt our solution, and we are still
facing the BetaMax vs. VHS challenge…and we do not know, whether industry players would actively prohibit
access to their assets…there are so many things that might happen. And even if you really like us, there is still
a lot of work to be done. We do semantic middleware, not Voodoo...
But, close enough: We have created a middleware platform that is able to solve the interoperability problem in
a super simple way. And if it is not us, we are pretty much sure, the winner in this challenge in the end will very
much look like us… we are just a small start-up, so who are we to declare victory, but we can argue how a good
solution should look like. Effectively, it should solve the challenges that great minds in the industry have put
forward - like the oneM2M program, which in 2014 formulated 9 requirements for a universal IoT semantics
platform, out of which we believe we can fulfil at least 8 - the last one is on pairing, which at the moment we
leave to the protocols on the physical layer.
Our disadvantage is probably also the biggest advantage on our side: We are only a small start-up, we work in
a boot-strapping mode, we are easy to work with, we are not greedy and we do not need to defend a legacy.
We just want to deliver our contribution. Because, we believe it is needed.
Time is now!
When I asked our developers, when we can make that statement back in December 2015, they asked me to
wait until April 2016. It is March now. So, we are early. But I am cheating a bit: The truth is, that we will open
up our API to friendly users only after the Easter break. Actually, we are pretty much on time. We have our
interoperability framework in place, and we can provide the necessary context you need to create your virtualized smart solution, and then put it into practice with the things you want - please notice the order of

things...first think about the problem you want to solve, and after you solved it in the "virtual world", we help
you finding exactly the right resources in the real world...not the other way round. We help you solving problems.
Need your help!
To do so, for the next step, we need your help: We financed our way through with our own money to stay
independent. We want to stay modest, be helpful and easy to work with…so we left out VCs. In turn, we need
you as a customer to demonstrate what we can do.
Let’s do a self-test, whether you are the right pilot customer for us:

You need a cloud platform for your IoT challenge, and want to make a sustainable choice?

You want to realize use cases and create user experiences around connected services and devices that is
independent from how exactly things get connected and the technologies used? - You may even need to
play in different eco-systems, and sustain a consistent user experience?

You are confused about which standard or platform offer to use, since there are so many and you lack
confidence which will work with what in the future?

You do not want to spend the effort to rewrite your application every time a new technology comes up? –
You probably like the idea conceptually better that a connector to that technology is created once, and
every application can leverage this connection?

You even want to simulate and test before you build?

You need a flexible, scalable and easy to extend cloud based development environment for your IoT challenges anyways?

You already have an IoT solution, but you do know that at one point in time you need to migrate technologies, or broaden the scope?
If you have at least one "yes", try us out now.
What we offer
We haven’t bridged to all technologies out there yet, but we have quite some already connected. But, we are
still at the beginning. And we are honest: You will pave the way with us, and that is a fair exchange. In return
we offer you a middleware solution that gives you the simplest and most user friendly developer environment
in the IoT area, and we can help you bridging into any existing or emerging IoT eco-system (as long as there is
an open receiving end) – whether it is Brillo/Weave, IoTivity, Samsung, or even HomeKit, if Apple allows for it.
We do not even have a user interface yes, but we have a UX/UI design for the smart home domain to start with,
but we spared the resources until we are sure that we can use it directly with customers after building it...
We can build on all existing open connectivity standards, be it Wifi, BT, ZigBee, z-wave, Homematic IP,
thread…and use existing Integration Frameworks like ESH or AllJoyn.
Like with every big idea, we start small. We haven’t already connected all these technologies and eco-systems,
since we do not have the resources and are extremely focused around the key problem we wanted to solve

first. But in most cases, we know already how we would do it. We need our customers to operationalize connections to different technologies with us. You have the use cases, so you also provide us with the right focus.
But once the connections are there, all applications that are built against our API can be used in all the connected eco-systems – without any further effort on your side. Same with all connected services and hardware.
So we are creating the most important public good for IoT together.
We brought it until the point where we could walk alone. Now you need to go the next steps with us.
What are the next steps?
We will open our API to friendly users in the second week of April. Friendly users are companies that start
working with us on use cases that create value for them and add to the connections of our solution. And we will
have some friendly developers looking at us that we think we need to get into the other eco-systems. Corporate
partners simply pay us as we go and support them with our resources. They do not pay for using the IP. If you
want to be part of that, please contact us.
By summer this year, we should be in shape to fully open up the API, open source the better part of the platform.
We should – by then, and with your help – be able to connect to the most relevant eco-systems. And together
with you, announce the solution for the IoT interoperability challenge.
Are you in?
It is easy. Get in contact with us. Discuss your challenges and what our solution can do for you. If we both agree
on a project scope that suits us, we will support you. Honest and with a lot of value for money. And you will
have the good feeling on top that without you, the biggest challenge in the fourth industrial revolution would
have been unresolved for too long.
