El Yunque Rainforest Walking Excursion
Splashing falls, scenic views and extensive flora
and fauna are just some of the highlights you will
experience while visiting El Yunque Rain Forest.
Spanning 29,000 acres with its highest peak
reaching over 3,500 ft. over sea level the El
Yunque, formerly known as the Caribbean
National Forest, is the only tropical rainforest in
the U.S. Forest System. Originally set aside in
1876 by the Spanish Crown, the Forest
represents one of the oldest reserves in the
Western Hemisphere. With over 240 species (26
species are found nowhere else) of trees and
plants.
The Forest contains rare wildlife
including such as the Puerto Rican Parrot, which
is one of the ten most endangered species of
birds in the world. El Yunque is the rainiest of all
the National Forests with up to 240 inches per
year.
This guided tour includes two stops
before a scenic and low impact walk on
Caimitillo Trail which is full of the natural beauty,
flora and fauna, some indigenous to the island.
Explore the charm and sophistication of the blue
cobblestones streets in Old San Juan, filled with
a history lesson at every corner. Founded in
1521, Old San Juan is the oldest city under U.S.
Jurisdiction and is one of the biggest natural
harbors in the Caribbean.
Designated a
UNESCO World Heritage Site you can still walk
along the 500-year-old wall that once
surrounded the entire city.
Historical forts,
museums and picturesque plazas found
throughout the city tell the story of a rich culture.
Knowledgeable tour guides will lead you on a
90-minute historical walking tour. You will have
the opportunity to leisurely tour the city for
additional sightseeing and one of a kind
shopping. Old San Juan offers unique shopping
opportunities that include lovely souvenir shops,
local artisan stands, designer outlet stores and
fine jewelry. You may also choose to enjoy
lunch at one of the many restaurants.
