¡Hola Fenn Community!
Get ready to celebrate as “Havana Nights” comes to Fenn! The evening is guaranteed to be festive, fun,
and spirited. Having donned our Guayabera shirts and fedoras, parents, teachers, staff members, and
friends are gathering for this community event.
As the rhythmic beats of the mamba and son surround us, our spirits will soar because we know this
evening will be expanding horizons for Fenn boys. The generous bidding of Havana’s tourists will go
directly to the Faculty Professional and Curriculum Development Fund. This is our opportunity, as Fenn
parents and friends, to support the many enriching programs that empower our school’s stellar faculty.
A fundraiser of this caliber, with all its wonderful effects on the school community, can only happen
with extraordinary parent-volunteers leading the way. The raffle and silent auction this year is no
exception. The Fenn School community gratefully tips our fedoras to the visionary, tireless, and skilled
chair of the raffle and silent auction, Nicole Lippa. Without her enthusiasm, organization, goodwill, and
hard work, this event would not have succeeded. Nicole would be the first to note that she is joined
in her efforts by the many parent-volunteers of the Raffle and Silent Auction Committee who solicited
gifts and executed the countless details that will make “Havana Nights at Fenn” one memorable event
for our school. All of us at Fenn are deeply grateful for the inspired efforts of all of our volunteers and
the generosity of our raffle and silent auction donors.
Above all, please enjoy “Havana Nights at Fenn.” We’re glad you’ll be traveling with us to this unique
destination. And we know that the festive atmosphere of “Havana at Fenn” will raise your spirits—and

Lorraine Garnett Ward
1949-2017
Lorraine Garnett Ward started each of her classes in September by talking to the boys about
the importance of one’s heart—how one can live in this imperfect world and be the person
one wants to be if one values the voice of his heart and the impact that it can have in this
world. The lesson was of course carried throughout the year in her classes because it was
immediately clear, to all of her students, that she gave them a piece of her own heart when
teaching them, and so the boys had nothing left to do but be carried away by the magic of
their beloved teacher. This same kind of care and compassion carried through to her colleagues at Fenn, and first and foremost, to her family. As many have said recently, Lorraine
chose to mother us all. Therefore, it is not surprising that Lorraine chose to spend her life in a
profession that improves lives and fulfills one’s heart in a way that monetary success cannot.
One can ascertain that Lorraine existed and lived as long as she did after her initial diagnosis
ten-and-a-half-years ago because all parts of her life quenched her passion for guiding and
loving others, and this filled her heart with an endless supply of energy. And so one can hope
that her desire to exist in our imperfect world by following one’s heart is the lesson that we
all take from Lorraine’s life, for to do so, will truly honor the life of a remarkable woman who
we were all incredibly lucky to have known.

The Boys Raffle at Fenn has become a wonderful tradition that the boys look forward to every year. This raffle is a
way for the boys to embrace some “Havana Nights at Fenn” fun, win some totally lit prizes, and support the Fenn
Assembly program. Boys Raffle ticket sales will take place Monday, April 24-Friday, April 28. Tickets can be purchased
on campus each morning from 7:40-8:15 a.m. in the drop off area. Ticket prices are $2 each or six tickets for $10.
Each Fenn boy will receive one complimentary ticket. We will be raffling the following items:

Unleash your creativity and design your own pair of Nike sneakers! Enclosed in a mini shoebox is one sweet
reward; a $150 Nike gift card so you can go online and buy Nike shoes designed by you. In addition to choosing the

Bored and need something to do? We have a prize for you. Be the proud owner of a collection of fidget toys and

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
To bid on a silent auction item, each guest
must register and receive a bid number at the
registration table, which will be located at the
entrance to the new gym. The Fenn School
and the Raffle & Silent Auction Committee
warrant neither the quality nor the value of
the items and services auctioned. The school
assumes no responsibility for the validity of
the description, authenticity or condition of
any item or service offered. Buyers should
satisfy themselves prior to the purchase as to
the condition of each item. All sales are final
and subject to the terms and conditions stipulated by the donor. The Fenn School reserves
the right to withdraw any item at any time
before the actual sale and to reject a bid from
any bidder. By his or her purchase, the buyer
waives any claims for liability against the Fenn
School, the Raffle & Silent Auction Committee,
or the donor of the item, property or service.
Neither The Fenn School, the Raffle & Silent
Auction Committee, nor the donor are responsible for any personal injuries or damage that
may result from the use of any items, property, or service sold. No pets, smoking, or
group parties are allowed in the house or condominium packages. It is the buyer’s responsibility to understand and abide by any other
rules related to such properties.
Havana Nights
All purchased goods and services must be
used within one year of the raffle and silent
auction unless otherwise indicated. Dates
and times are to be arranged at mutual convenience of the donor and the buyer. It is the
buyer’s responsibility to make arrangements.
Any disputes or problems arising from the purchase of an auction item should be directed
to the Raffle & Silent Auction Chairs for resolution. A valid Hold Harmless agreement and
Release of All Claims form for Non-School
Activities is required for each individual for
any service or activity that involves a Fenn
School teacher, staff member or school representative. Each successful bidder must pay by
cash, personal check or Master Card, Visa or
American Express. Please make all checks payable to “Fenn PA”.
SILENT AUCTION
Bidders should enter their bid number and bid
amount on the bid sheet located next to each
silent auction item. Bids will be disqualified if
the required minimum bid increment is not
made. Bid sheets cannot be blocked or removed
from their designated spot, except by authorized persons at the close of bidding.
Your bid is your obligation to purchase the
silent auction item. Items will be awarded to
the highest bidder entered on the sheet at the

closing. No bidding will be allowed after the
closing. In the event of a dispute, the Raffle
& Silent Auction Chairs shall determine the
winning bid. The value placed on each item
has been determined by the donor. For tax
purposes, the portion of the winning bid that
exceeds the fair market value of the item purchased is considered a charitable contribution.
RAFFLE
Raffle tickets will be sold online when you
register for the event and during the “Havana
Nights at Fenn” party. The ticket prices are $20
per ticket or six tickets for $100. Raffle tickets
should be placed in the designated boxes in
front of the prizes you would like to win. All
raffle items will be raffled separately so that
you can choose items of interest to you. When
the raffle is closed, a Raffle & Silent Auction
committee member will randomly select one
ticket from each raffle item box. The ticket
selected indicates the winner for that prize.

night, April 29, at the “Havana Nights at Fenn”
Raffle and Silent Auction. While the boys
enjoy buying their tickets during the week,
we are also offering this additional opportunity for parents to buy their sons some

take place at All School Meeting on Monday,
May 1. The first winner gets his choice of the
prizes. Subsequent winners get their choice of
the remaining prizes.
RUM TASTING
When you arrive and check in with our "Havana
Nights at Fenn" welcome crew, you will receive
one ticket for a complimentary Rumson’s Rum
tasting with Eric Glass (co-owner Rumson’s
Rum).

Embracing “Havana” for this year’s Raffle and Silent Auction is possible thanks to the efforts and generosity
of our tireless volunteers, the Advancement Office, Fenn faculty and staff, and our gracious donors. Tonight
would not be possible without their hard work, dedication, creativity, and fabulous donations. Thank you!
It was a pleasure to work with the members of our Raffle and Silent Auction Committee whose talents, imagination, and energy transports us to the island of Cuba tonight. Our Decorations and Staging Committee has
created a vibrant, vivacious, and welcoming environment that is the perfect backdrop for a night of community and friendship—Bravo! Our Acquisitions and Business Sponsorship Committees worked together to raise
money for the event and to source so many unique and special items for tonight. The Communications and
Invitations teams were resourceful in their quest to spread the word about tonight’s raffle and silent auction.
Our Event Catalog Committee worked diligently, and under a tight time schedule, to write and create this
beautiful book. Our Food and Beverage Committee worked with our talented Flik Chefs to create an amazing,
delicious Cuban inspired menu for the evening. The Boys Raffle Committee included our Fenn boys in the fun
by creating a totally lit raffle just for them. To all of the committee members a profound and genuine thank
you.
I would also like to thank our enthusiastic guests for attending this evening; I'm so glad you could join us. Grab
a drink and some of the delicious Cuban food; relax and enjoy the great company of our wonderful Fenn community. Don’t forget to check out the many awesome Raffle and Silent Auction prizes! I hope you leave tonight
with one of your favorite items. A huge shout out specifically to each faculty and staff member who work so
hard with our sons throughout the year instilling the pillars of a Fenn education: respect, empathy, courage
and honesty. Through your mentorship in this vibrant community, you lift them up, teach them to learn, and
encourage the growth of their individual and unique identities. This night is for you!

graduate of Fenn, and a three-time Academy Award winner in Scientific and Technical categories. Tom is credited with innovating “motion blur,” one of the breakthroughs that made computer animated films an art form. Tom, now Pixar’s Senior Vice President of Production, will
take you and five guests on a private two and a half hour visit to Pixar Studios in Emeryville,
California. Your group will tour the studios, watch a private demo of technical work performed
on a recent Pixar film such as Inside Out or Finding Dory, and sit down with Pixar animators to
