Kari Street Commons What recreational activities would you like to see in the new public space at Kari Street Commons? The Auckland Domain Masterplan identified the former Kari Street Nursery for redevelopment as an ‘active recreation area, which can also be used as an event space’. Auckland Council is designing a concept plan and would like your feedback about the type of activities you would like to see created at the Kari Street Commons. Please read the following display board and provide your feedback via the questionnaire provided today, or online at shapeauckland.co.nz Project Purpose To provide an adaptable space, usable for temporary events but also increasing the range of sport and recreation options in the city’s centre. Project Opportunities • Re-purpose existing hard spaces for active recreation, catering to nearby residents/workers/students, and also visitors to the Auckland Domain. • Create walking connections to Auckland Hospital, the Centennial Walkway and the proposed natural playspace in the Auckland Domain. • Keep spaces clear for events (note: there is currently a lack of hard spaces in the CBD to hold events). • Retain and enhance views through selected pruning of trees and removal of weed species. • Maintain a balance of passive space in and around more active areas. • Work with Mana whenua to create a uniquely ‘New Zealand’ space. • Re-purpose some existing buildings, potentially for concessionaire occupation (e.g pop-up café). • Adapt existing infrastructure to allow for public use and events (e.g lighting, power and water supply). • Identify future access for events (the Kari Street entrance has loading restrictions, and event trucks will require alternative access).
