But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—
and not without results. …yet it was not I but God who was working through me by
his grace. 1 Corinthians 15:10 (NLT)
You might need to accept:
•
•
•
Accept what you can’t change.
Accept that opinions are not necessarily true.
Accept God’s love for you.
For even if the mountains walk away and the hills fall to pieces, My love
won’t walk away from you… Isaiah 54:10
When others dismiss you, you have God’s attention.
First pride, then the crash— the bigger the ego, the harder the fall.
Proverbs 16:18 (MSG)
When life is about us, the spectrum we live in is:
• Excessive pride and the need for validation.
“The fear of man will prove to be a snare. But whoever trusts in the Lord is
kept safe.” Proverbs 29:25
…he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the sheep under his
care. Ps. 95:7
God never overlooks a single sparrow and He pays even greater attention
to you, down to the last detail -- even numbering the hairs on your head.
Luke 12:6-7
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I
can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!
Psalm 139:17-18 (NLT)
When others disgrace me, God affirms me.
If you puff yourself up, you'll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you're content
to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty. Matthew 23:12 (MSG)
God is present among you, a strong Warrior there to save you.… he’ll calm
you with his love and delight you with his songs. Zeph. 3:17-18
“Even if my father and mother abandon me the Lord will hold me close.”
Ps 27:10
Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed
in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores
who God is and what he is doing. And God isn't pleased at being ignored.
Romans 8:7-8 (MSG)
"You have been chosen by God himself." 1 Peter 2:9
You did not choose me but I chose you…John 15:16
…for I did not come to condemn the world but to save it. John 12:47
Regardless of my past, God wants me.
Some Sources of insecurity:
Rejection
Criticism
Comparison
When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be
humble and give more honor to others than to yourselves. Do not be interested only
in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others. Philippians 2:3-4 (NCV)
•
Accept your uniqueness.
•
Accept your new life from God.
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my
mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13 (NLT)
Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and
everything is new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (CEV)

Pride’s battleground:
Questions that can be used in Connection Groups:
• Will I seek the opinions of people to conform me?
• Will I allow God to define me?
Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with
sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
Romans 12:3 (NIV)
…The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he
does for us, not by what we are and what we do for him. Romans 12:3 (MSG)
These questions also work well for personal time with God.
