Kindness and mercy are what the enslaved people of Israel
needed, and they came in the form of deliverance. They came
through a leader, Moses, who was once plucked from the Nile
River and was now herding his father-in-law’s sheep in the
land of Goshen. The bush that burned but was not consumed
shows us that God is inexhaustible mystery.
Moses’ awe and deference are mixed with a touching
conversational tone as he seeks to learn God’s name. And
God sweetly responds. The somewhat abstract “I AM”
distinguishes the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob
from the minor gods in the territory who “are not.” They are
helpless, powerless, and useless. Moses is to step out into an
amazing future, and God will be there with outstretched arm.
Just go and see, God seems to say.

Reconciliation evening - March 17
When we participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we come face to face with the mystery of God’s love. This
sacrament helps us experience God’s forgiveness firsthand. Hopefully, we will come to experience Jesus’ “look of
love.” How is this love of God manifested?
• We experience the freedom that comes from bringing our sin into the light of Christ (cf. Jn 3: 20-21).
Everything inside of us can cry out: “I don’t want to go to confession!” This struggle is not unique to teenagers; it
is common to everyone who has endeavored to bring his sin to the light. To speak openly about our sin grates on
our fallen nature. Nonetheless, the Sacrament of Reconciliation enables all of us (including teenagers) to come
safely into the light of Christ’s truth and experience his forgiveness. For young people it is the opportunity to
experience freedom from nagging guilt and embarrassment. They are surely blessed by the cleansing of the Holy
Spirit leading to an inner sense of peace. Hopefully, they will know the reality of St. John’s words: “The blood of
Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin… If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins
and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 Jn 1:7-9). John exhorted them: “I am writing to you, young people,
because you have conquered the evil one… I write to you, young people, because you are strong and the word of
God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one” (1 Jn 2:13-14).
• The Sacrament of Reconciliation helps us grasp that we are responsible for our lives, for how we think and act.
We are obliged to examine how our words and actions have hurt and offended others, and how our lives do or
do not reflect God’s standards. This sacrament forces us to see that we are not isolated individuals but members
of the body of Christ and the human family. Our sin injures that body and violates the integrity of others. The
Sacrament of Reconciliation accentuates the communal nature of our sinfulness and reconciliation.
• Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation Jesus pours out the Holy Spirit, empowering us to live holy lives.
Through the actions of Jesus, by the power of his Spirit, men and women can conquer sin in their lives. Jesus
breaks the hold Satan has gained over them through the lust of their eyes and the pride of life (cf. 1 Jn 2:16). We
should not underestimate the spiritual effect that regular participation in this sacrament can have on all of us. We
explicitly, recommit our lives to the Gospel. Rededication is essential for spiritual growth. Jesus is pleased when
we renew our commitment to him and to his Gospel.
Jubilee Year of Mercy
POPE FRANCIS SPEAKS TO US
IN THE YEAR OF MERCY
I am confident that the whole Church, which is in such need of
mercy for we are sinners, will be able to find in this Jubilee the joy
of rediscovering and rendering fruitful God’s mercy, with which
we are all called to give comfort to every man and every woman
of our time. Do not forget that God forgives all, and God forgives
always. Let us never tire of asking forgiveness. Let us henceforth
entrust this Year to the Mother of Mercy, that she turn her gaze
upon us and watch over our journey: our penitential journey, our
year-long journey with an open heart,
to receive the indulgence of God, to receive the mercy of God.”

Bondye kòm Bondye Abraham, Izarak ak Jakòb. Pòl mande
lektè li yo pou yo kontinye grandi nan lafwa. Bondye ki
delivre pèp Izrayèl la ap delivre yo tou. Antan ke moun ki
fè eksperyans pitye Bondye a, tout kretyen dwe kenbe fèm
nan travay yap fè a, pou yo ka gen plis konfyans ak renmen
Bondye nan kè yo.
Dezyèm pati Levanjil la rakonte yon istwa nou tout konen
bien sou pitye Bondye. San li pa okipe konsèy mèt tè a,
kiltivatè rezen an mande pou li fè pa pye fig frans la, pou li pat
koupe pye bwa a men pou li te pèmèt vye pye fig frans la ki
pat pwodui fri pandan kèk ane pou li donen yon lòt ane ankò.
Bondye pa nou an se yon Bondye tandrès ak pitye, li toujou
pare pou li ban nou yon lòt chans pou nou tounen sou bon
chemen an. An nou sezi opòtinite a pandan sezon Karèm sa
a pou nou ranje zafè nou avèk Bondye epi pwodui bon jan fri
pou Wayòm li a.

“YO SOY”
