ANNOUNCING AMDA’S SUMMER 2015
BLACKBOX DANCE:
Student Choreography Festival
Love Stories
Director: Tracy Silver
This Blackbox Dance production will provide student choreographers and intermediate/advanced
level dancers the opportunity to develop original dance works, culminating in performance. Styles
may include ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, cultural, period, contemporary, etc.
Blackbox Dance provides student choreographers and intermediate/advanced level dancers
the opportunity to stretch and grow beyond the classroom. All current AMDA students are
invited to audition. At the audition, students will be taught a variety of combinations in a
broad range of styles.
All work will be screened by a panel of faculty and creative staff. Based upon the screening,
select pieces will move forward towards performance.
Student choreographers are encouraged (but not required) to participate as dancers in the
production as well.
Students do have the opportunity to take Blackbox Dance for credit. After casting has been
posted, students may add the course. The deadline to do so is Friday July 10 at 5p.
Student Choreography:
This Blackbox Dance production is entirely comprised of student choreography. This is an
exciting opportunity for students to develop their own original works.
Those interested in participating as student choreographers are asked to submit a detailed
proposal for the piece they wish to develop. Please download the proposal form via the eblast or pick up a packet, available at Reception and the Enrichment office.
Electronic proposals are due by Monday July 6 at 5pm to Marina Benedict, Tracy Silver, and
Danny Crisp ([email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]).
Students who are chosen as choreographers will be asked to prepare a combo for student
casting session.
Student-choreographed work will be viewed for consideration at the screening, at which time
the artistic team will determine which works will move forward to the performances.
