It should be approximately 1 yd. of each of the 2 main fabrics and about ¼ yd. for the pockets. 2. Make patterns for the outside cover and lining pieces by drawing the pieces from the measurements above on paper. Label each piece. Use the pattern pieces to cut the outside cover pieces from fabric and interfacing. Cut out lining using the lining patterns. 8. With right sides together sew one side piece to the long machine cover piece. Starting at one lower edge, sew along one long side. At the 1/2” mark pivot and clip bottom piece up to the seam allowance. Continuing along the top, pivot and clip again at the next 1/2” mark and continue along the second side to the bottom. Repeat with the second side of the machine cover. Illus. 5. 3. Following the manufacturer’s directions, iron interfacing to the wrong sides of the outside pieces. 4. With right sides together sew 1 pocket and 1 pocket lining piece together along the short top edge. Illus. 1. 9. To make the lining, repeat steps 5 and 6, leaving a 6” opening along one side edge. 5. Press the seam allowance towards the outside pocket. Fold the pocket in half, wrong sides together, lining up the bottom raw edges. Baste the bottom edges together and press. The lining is longer than the pocket to form a band at the top of the pocket. Repeat with the second pocket. Illus. 2. 10. With right sides together place the cover inside the lining, lining up the bottom raw edges. Sew all around the bottom edge. 11. Turn cover right side out through opening. Hand sew the opening closed and press. The lining fabric will form a band at the bottom of the machine cover. 12. Hand tack the lining and cover together at the top corners to hold the lining in place. 6. Baste the pocket to the right side of the outside side piece, lining up the bottom raw edges and sides. Repeat with the second side piece and pocket. Illus. 3. 7. Mark the center top of the long machine cover piece and the top center of the side pieces on the wrong side of the fabric with a pencil or disappearing ink pen. Mark the 1/2” seam allowance on the top edges of the side pieces. Illus. 4.
