ATMA 2012
Overall:
180 questions, 180 minutes
There were no distinct sections, though the questions were arranged in 6 batches of 30 in the
following way:
1-30: Quantitaive Skills (PS)
31-60: Analytical reasoning Skills ( LR & VR)
61-90: Verbal Skills (RC & VA)
91-120: Quantitative Skills (DI & PS)
121-150: Analytical reasoning Skills (LR & VR)
151-180: Verbal Skills (RC & VA)
Test-takers could attempt any of the questions in any order, i.e. there was no sectional timing.
All questions were 3 marks each, with negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer.
All questions had 4 options.
Several questions were incorrectly framed, or had major typos or ambiguities – for example, a
sentence correction question in which the correct option was repeated twice, so there was no
way to know which one to mark; or a syllogism question in which two incompatible conclusions
were included in the same sentence, so that the conclusion was both correct and incorrect at
the same time; and an antonym question which was most likely meant to be a synonym
question, as there was no antonym possible for the given word (‘odor’).

There were 18 VR questions in all, consisting of Analogies (5), Anagrams (8) and Syllogisms
(5). They were all of easy to medium difficulty, except for two of the analogy questions, which
were a bit tough, as they involved a bit of general knowledge of concepts such as ‘joules’ and
‘hygrometer’. The anagram questions could be tricky, but doable if you have had sufficient
practice with such questions. The syllogisms questions were mostly straightforward.

Reading Comprehension (RC):
There were 4 RC passages overall, 2 in each VA/RC section. There were a total of 28
questions: 8, 5, 5 and 10. The topics were: business, philosophy, technology and politics. All
passages were very short – about 200-300 words each – and except for the one on philosophy,
fairly easy to understand. Almost all the questions were direct, and the options were far apart,
so the questions were very easy to understand.

‘proper’ and ‘broad’. This was a section in which you could maximize your score, as the

Problem solving (PS):
There were around 40 questions in all, which majorly consisted of Arithmetic (27 questions), 2
from modern maths, 2 from Numbers and around 5 from Algebra. Most of the questions were
on the easier side and could be solved within 30-40 seconds. Most of the questions mostly
tested the basics of the particular topic and hence the level of difficulty was easy. Few questions
were not framed properly and hence few assumptions had to be made to solve the questions.

Data Interpretation (DI):
There were 25 questions on Data Interpretation. It included pie charts, Graphs etc. The
questions were easy to moderate in the level and were a little time consuming as most of it
included close observation and reasonably good calculation skills
Data Sufficiency (DS):
There were around 15 questions in Data sufficiency which also were on an easier side. These
questions covered topics from Arithmetic, logic, Arrangement and family tree. These were also
a little time consuming but solvable.
Logical Reasoning (LR):
Around 40 - 45 questions were there from Logical reasoning. This included 5 questions from
groups and conditionalities, 15-17 from arrangements (linear and circular), 5 from selection
criteria and 15 from miscellaneous topics. These were a little time consuming and the level of
difficulty was moderate.
