The Bliven Beacon Literature 8th - We will continue to work on our Research Papers - source cards, note cards, & thesis statements this week as well as working on our introductions 7th - Weekly story: Poetry Collection 1 (multiple poems in this unit); New concepts: Asking questions to draw conclusions, latin root -lum-, Infinitives and infinitive phrases 6th - Weekly story: Alvin Ailey; New concepts: Sequence, main idea & details, connotation & denotation, homographs, adjectives, capitalization and types of sentences Writing Students will work on their creative writing prompts this week and grade them against the rubric. We (8th grade) will be having a bake sale during the Spring Program on Tuesday of next week (May 9th @7pm). Science6th- Distinguish between the terms position, distance, and displacement, as well as, the terms speed and velocity. 6th grade will also be working on graphing speed. 7th- Describe the difference between plant and animal cells as well as the functions cells carry out. Students will be able to describe the cell theory. 8th- Students will create models to show how the structures of chromatin, chromosomes, chromatids, genes, alleles and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules are related and differ. They will also be working on describing the process of Transcription and translation of DNA.
