Indonesia
Second Power Transmission Development Project
Description
Purpose: To strengthen and expand the capacity of
the power transmission networks in parts of Java and
Bali Islands, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi.
Expected Results (include):
Expansion and rehabilitation of power substations.
Project is expected to benefit more than 29.5 million
Indonesians by increasing access to the national
electricity grid.
IBRD Financing: $325 million
Development Challenge
Indonesia’s power sector is challenged by the country’s
geography and rapid economic growth. About 70 million
people lack access to grid electricity. Access to quality,
reliable electricity is critical for reducing poverty and
improving quality of life. Accelerating infrastructure and
energy development is therefore given primary importance.
Project Description
The project funds activities which will strengthen and expand
the capacity of the power transmission networks in the project
area in a sustainable manner. The Second Power
Transmission Development Project will help improve
electricity supplies and quality in the project areas by building
and rehabilitating substations. The project will also help build
capacity to operate transmission and distribution systems.
