H A P P Y N E W Y E A R TO A L L !
Dear Parents,
A ‘Happy New Year!’, and welcome to this edition of the
Nelson’s International School
newsletter.
Inside this issue you can see
some fantastic photographs
from our ‘Expressions’ function,
as well as our recent NIS sports
day held at Khokhara sports
ground. Students performed
drills, dances as well as competing in many events, and
earned many medals and certificates for their achievements.
We still have quite a few events
and activities lined up on the
calendar for the rest of this
year to look forward to.
As it is still quite cold in the
early morning at the start of
school, parents are reminded
to ensure their children are
well wrapped up with scarves,
jumpers, school jackets and
other warm clothing to avoid
coughs, colds and flu.
In this season of coughs, colds
and flu - please discuss good
hygiene habits with your child
or children - if they are coughing or sneezing they should
cough or sneeze into their
elbow if a handkerchief is not
available. It is important to
wash hands carefully and well
to help prevent the spread of
infections.
On behalf of the school I
would like to sincerely thank all
the parents, students and
teachers for all their support
and hard work, especially dur-
ing our annual ‘Expressions’
function and sports day. It is
only with the dedication and
hard work shown that these
events become the successes
that they surely have been.
If you have any questions or
comments on any school developments or other school
issues or suggestions - please
do not hesitate to contact us at
any time through the school
office.
Your feedback is invaluable to
us, and we welcome the opportunities to meet and talk
with all members of our school
community.

to help foster and develop an understanding of community sharing and
helping those in need, a group of NIS
students with their teacher visited one
of the local municipal schools.
The students and teacher group donated some school supplies, shared
some of their own learning
with the municipal school students

MATHS SUM
I found an old maths book, this addition
sum has been marked ‘correct’ by the
teacher, but the 3 squares were where the
writing was bad and I couldn’t read the
figures.
WORD LADDER
PICTURE PUZZLES
Fill in the word ladder, changing only one
letter at a time.
The ‘hidden phrases’ or sayings in these
images are:
Each step on the ladder must be a real 4letter word!

WARM
The correct ladder steps are:
COLD -> CORD -> WORD -> WARD ->

The ‘missing figures’ from top to bottom are
0, 9 and 0.
Top secret, jack-in-the-box and deep in

OFF TO THE ZOO… with THE NURSERY
CLASS
Nursery students and their teacher
enjoyed a fun-packed trip to the zoo.
Nursery students learn all about animals in their books with pictures, but
they can learn much more by seeing
the same animals in real life.
On this trip the children saw elephants, tigers, turtles, bears and
snakes!
N i g h t a n d day … a n d s h a d ow s w i t h 1 s t s ta n da r d
As part of their studies in science and
maths , 1st standard students have
been looking at the concepts of night
and day and shadows.
As the Earth rotates, so the sun only
shines on some parts of the Earth
which students
saw using the
classroom globe
and a torch.
Using the sun in the playground, students examined their shadows and
measured the size of different shadows with a measuring tape.
