Dairy Bar finds “mint” success In April 2016, the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul The Gopher Dairy Club was blessed to have an campus celebrated 100 years of Minnesota Royal. This event, often described as “St. Paul’s Homecoming Week”, continued its legacy of entertainment, competition, and memories for all participating. The Gopher Dairy Club was well represented. excellent year at the Gopher Dairy Bar, aided by nearly perfect weather and record setting State Fair attendance. Net profits topped $150,000, which will be used to fund Gopher Dairy Club’s valuable educational activities. Starting the week’s festivities was the skits competition, in which Gopher Dairy Club’s jokes sent quite a ripple through the room. The next night, members pitted their brains against other teams’, as they competed in the quiz bowl competition. The milkmaid contest was a highliht of the week in many ways, as club members sang a new rendition of a 1972 Carly Simon hit, rewritten to “You’re so Dane”, done in honor of Dairy Club’s MN Royal King candidate, and much loved senior, Dane Thompson. New this year was the addition of mint as a permanent flavor. It had been featured in 2014 and 2015, and its popularity made it a valuable addition to the shake flavor line up, which also included vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. Another new addition was a brand new shake machine, purchased to replace an old, unreliable machine. Once again, MN Royal attendees were thrilled to listen to a concert from the legendary Johnny Holms Band, which brings all of campus together in a mutual love of dancing and country music. During halftime of the concert, MN Royal King and Queen were named. Gaining the crowns were King Thomas Leopold and Queen Rachael Rostad, a longtime member and leader in Gopher Dairy Club. Wrapping up the week was the showmanship contest. A beautiful day for a show, Saturday brought many alumni and friends to campus. This event showcases the showmanship skills of experts, and challenges many to try showing a new species, or to show an animal for the first time. The club’s participation was coordinated by MN Royal Representative Amber Johnson and was represented in the royalty contest by Dane Thompson and Johanna Knorr. - Johanna Knorr, GDC MN Royal Queen Candidate Gopher Dairy Club Showbox 2016 In 12 days of the State Fair, the Gopher Dairy Bar used: 750 hours of labor, 800 cases of shake mix, and 730 gallons of milk. These inputs served 47,000 shakes and 7,900 glasses of milk. In total, the Dairy Bar generated $242,000 in gross sales, and were able to keep expenses low, at just over $102,000. In addition, the club received a generous sponsorship from Land O’ Lakes, to achieve a net profit of $150,000. The club proudly serves exclusively Land O’ Lakes dairy products, and is gratified to frequently hear from customers that the Gopher Dairy Bar serves the “best shakes at the Fair”! Most importantly, the Gopher Dairy Bar gives club members the opportunity to develop customer service skills, share their knowledge and passion for dairy products and the industry that produces them, and to work as a team to financially sustain the club’s activities. No doubt, customers return year after year because of the club’s delicious products and the fun atmosphere provided by the staff. - Matt Ditsch & Johanna Knorr, Dairy Bar Managers 4 2016-2017 Gopher Dairy Club Roster Jordan Agrimson Emily Annexstad CiCi Bai McKenzie Barth Annie Benzine Brady Bobendrier Jake Borst Anthony Bosch Harley Braun Peter Breimhurst Kayla Brown Carson Bryan Breannca Bussert Amber Cafferty Alexis Corazza Rachel Coyne Annie Culbertson Ethan Dado Trent Dado Mariah Daninger Loren Dauer Chase DeFrang Matt Ditsch Ryan Donkers Kenny Dux Valerie Earley Dayton Engel 5 Taylor Folson Allison Forbord Alexis Giangrande Alyssa Groskopf Alexus Grossbier Jeni Haler Brielle Hauge Dan Hayes Lauren Hendel Christyn Hokanson Janelle Hueners Lisa Janak Laura Jensen Amber Johnson Jordan Juckel Deanna Kanne Ashley Kempher Tressa King Johanna Knorr Andrew Krause Morgan Krause Nicole Krumrie Audrey Lane Kyle Lawstuen Kirstin Lawstuen Haely Leiding Kayla Leiding Maddie Lindahl Elise Loveless Fred Mansfield Mikayla McDonald Megan McMahon Libby Mills Jenny Moran Tanner Morrison Madison Muir Kayla Mulhern Martyn Novacek Julia Nunes Christina Olson Trevor Otte Rachel Pappenfus Taylor Paulson Joe Ramstad Sam Riebel Libbie Ring Noah Rechtzigel Alexia Riley Brooke Roberts Jack Roessler McKenzie Roy Hannah Schlumberger Austin Schmitt Megan Schulte Lance Sexton Elizabeth Shaver Ellen Sheehan Crystal SiemersPeterman Jake Siewert Megan Slater Mike Slater Gabriella Sorg Rachel Stark Matt Stellpflug Emily Stockner Krista Styer Joey Sullivan Erica Sun Destiny Supuir Sierra Swanson Greta Tank Elizabeth Theis Greta Thormodson Brandon Thurk Micah Twedt Ashley Warren Rachel Weidmayer Brenna Werner Luke Werner Amie Woelfel Gopher Dairy Club Showbox 2016 Gopher Dairy Club Haecker Hall 1364 Eckles Avenue St. Paul, MN 55108 Congratulations to these present and past GDC Members Marriages Engagements • Lana Olson married Robert Beckard on July 9, 2016. • Aly Schwartau and Lee Kloeckner united in marriage on October 15, 2016. • Kelsey Mussman and Brett Schwartz were married on September 24, 2016. • Elizabeth Olson and Richard Hall III were wed on September 24, 2016. • Karen Anderson married Beau Johnson on August 12, 2016. • Jon Schmitt and Libby Collins were united in marriage on August 6, 2011. • Willie Coyne and Jenn Janak.were wed on January 16, 2016. • Janna Sorg and Eric Bauer.were united in marriage on August 8, 2016. • David Hanson married Ashley Swenson on July 9, 2016. • Theresa Twohey and Nick Reps are engaged to be married on April 8, 2016. • Austin Davis is engaged to Sara Roerick and an August 5, 2017 wedding is planned. • Abby Mills and Jordan Pahl will be united in marriage on May 6, 2017. • Andrew Miron is engaged to Stacey Glaess and a May 27, 2017 wedding is planned. • Laura Rosenhammer and Chris Scholtz will be united in marriage on July 8, 2017.
