CPM® ROARING 20's HOLIDAY PARTY
On Thursday, December 1st, Members and Industry Partner
Friends of our chapter celebrated 2016 together at the 1840's
Ballroom. Everyone enjoyed the glitz and glam of the 1920's
Speakeasy theme, the fabulous jazz band, and the always­
popular IREM Buck$ Silent Auction.
President Sonya Campbell officially passed the gavel to 2017
President Rich Henneberry, as Rich and the rest of Chapter
16's officers and the Executive Council were sworn in by
Region 3 Vice President Katherine Shiplett.
It was also a special celebration for Helen Farmer of Habitat
America as she was awarded her Accredited Residential
Manager (ARM) designation.

Your Programs & Communications Committee has been hard at
work creating programs for 2017 that are fun­filled, educational,
and provide lots of networking opportunities. Check out this
year's event calendar, and be sure to save the dates ­ starting
with the FREE Member Benefit and Candidate Luncheon at
McCormick & Schmick's on January 25. We'll also be kicking
off the new and improved IREM Buck$ program in 2017. Buck$ may be earned throughout the year by coming to events,
wearing your pin, and joining committees, among other things. At the end of the year, your earned Buck$ are used to bid on
items at the Holiday Party's Silent Auction. Some highlights: Come to each meeting and earn $5,000 BONUS Buck$
Bring a non­member property manager at no charge and
earn $500 Buck$
Volunteer for a Chapter 16 charity event and earn $1,000

named the ARM®
of the Year at November's
Annual Awards Dinner. Thelma has been in the
property management
industry for over twenty
years, but it wasn't until
joining WPM that she
learned about IREM and
was inspired to become a
member. This led to her
earning her Accredited
Residential Manager
(ARM) designation in 2014.
Thelma manages multi­
family garden­style
communities in Baltimore City, and she recently won a Gold
Award for one of the communities at the 2016 MMHA Star

MMHA Gold Star Award was for my team. I was most excited
for them. Through hard work and dedication, they trusted me
and we brought home the GOLD!"
Thelma shares what she loves about property management: "My job is very rewarding. It truly makes my day when I
receive calls of appreciation from current residents who are
satisfied with the hard work and service that my team and I aim
for daily. I enjoy seeing the happy faces of the new residents
that move in to my communities, and knowing we exceeded
their expectations."
On why it is important to be involved with IREM, Thelma says,
"I am very passionate about IREM, and I am proud to be a part
of the most prestigious organization in the Real Estate
industry. I joined almost 3 years ago, and the Chapter 16
family has been so inviting and supportive of my participation.
There is so much to learn at the meetings; I attend them all.
Being a part of the group keeps me focused on my continued
education and growth. I never stop learning, I read as many
industry articles and publications as I can. I strive to keep up
with industry trends and legislation updates. I wear my pin
proudly. I am extremely excited about achieving my CPM
designation next year. Additionally, this Spring I am speaking at
several high schools during Career Week to talk about our
wonderful industry. My hope is to gain more interest in property
management as a career to the high school generation. I will
continue to recruit for the IREM Organization and promote the
vast benefits it has to offer."
Hearing Thelma talk about IREM and her goals, one can
certainly see why one of her past managers has called her
"unstoppable"! We're lucky to have her as part of Chapter 16.
IREM SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Anne Angel, CPM® As you make plans for 2017, did you know about
the scholarships available to help you meet your
goals? Chapter 16 offers several ways to help. The
Past Presidents' Grant Fund honors the past
presidents that have served our chapter and made it
what it is today. There are two $500 grants available
to help members of the chapter that are
experiencing financial hardship or a lack of financial
support from their employer. We also offer the
Leonard Frenkil, Jr. Scholarship that covers up to
$2,500 for the cost of the CPM designation's MPSA
Capstone course, including travel and lodging. Additionally, the IREM Foundation has multiple
scholarships available; information and applications
may be found on the irem.org website. For more
