2016 SAT SCORES
OVERVIEW
The College Board has released the results of 2016 College Bound Seniors performance on the
SAT Reasoning Test™ to the public. Information is provided for seniors who took the SAT at
any time during their high school years. This report provides the Carroll County Public Schools
information related to the college readiness of our students.

2016 SAT REASONING TEST RESULTS SUMMARY
One Year Comparisons
Carroll County graduating seniors in the class of 2016 who took the SAT Reasoning Test scored
slightly lower than students in the past year. Students’ mean score on the critical reading section
(524) was one point higher than as last year. The mean score on the mathematics section (531)
was one point lower than in 2015. Students’ mean score on the writing section was 505. This is
five points lower than last year.
On the critical reading section of the test, Carroll County students scored 34 points higher than
the Maryland average and 30 points higher than national average. Mathematics scores were 41
points higher than the Maryland average and 23 points higher than the national average. Writing
scores in Carroll County were higher than the state average by 29 points and national average by
23 points.
Five Year Comparisons
Compared to the class of 2012, the critical reading mean score is seven points higher, the
mathematics mean score is three points higher and the writing mean score is one point higher.
The critical reading is the highest scores since the re-norming of the SAT in 1995. The
mathematics mean score is one point below the highest score since the re-norming.
The combined mean score for the Class of 2016 was 1560. This score is 11 points higher than the
combined mean for the class of 2012, 104 points higher than the Maryland average, and 76 points
higher than the national average. The combine mean score for the Class of 2016 is tied for the
third highest since 2006 when the SAT first comprised of three components.
