our Welcome Tea Party!
Hello, Family!
Welcome to April
and a
long-awaited
Spring.
With Spring
will come Spring clean up. Once
the weather clears, we will be
cleaning gutters, washing
windows and the exterior of the
building. Our lawn maintenance
company will also come and
clean up loose branches and
leaves. Toward the end of the
month and the beginning of
May, we will start getting ready
to plant annuals in different
areas throughout the property. If
you are interested in helping,
please contact me at
810-844-7445 or Megan McKay
at 810-844-7474.
Welcome also to some new
additions to the television
channel line up. Per the request
of our Residents, we have added
music channels. Channels 81
and 82 now offer musical
selections for your listening
enjoyment. We would love to
hear your feedback.
Our team is here to provide
support to our Residents in
whatever way we are able. Our
goal is to do that in a safe and
respectful way for everyone.
Please do not hesitate to ask for
support and assistance should
you need it. We are also happy
to discuss any questions or
concerns regarding any topic.
Please stop in and say hello
(hugs are welcome too). As
always, we are grateful that you
have chosen our community as
your home. Please contact me
by email at
[email protected] or by
telephone at 810-844-7445.

All That Jazz
April is Jazz Appreciation
Month. Celebrate with a look at
some of the legendary talents
who helped make the genre a
musical mainstay.
Louis Armstrong. Affectionately
called “Satchmo,” Armstrong,
like jazz itself, was born in New
Orleans and taught himself to
play cornet as a boy. He is
considered to be the founding
father of jazz, pioneering
improvised solos and scat
singing. The charismatic trumpet
virtuoso was so popular, he
served as a worldwide
ambassador for the new sound.
Charlie Parker. Growing up in
Kansas City, Mo.—another
cradle of jazz—Parker got his

first taste of music while playing

Famously known as “Bird,” the
saxophone great invented the
style of jazz called bebop with
trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie.
Miles Davis. Davis dropped
out of the Juilliard School in
New York City to play trumpet
with Charlie Parker. Known for
his ability to “hear the future,”
Davis continually forged new
trends, including cool jazz and
jazz fusion.

Spiritual
Corner
Pope Francis
was recently
asked, “Why does
God never tire of
forgiving us?” His
answer, “Because
He is God,
because He is
mercy, and because mercy is the
first attribute of God. The name
of God is mercy.”
As we live our lives, we have
regret and pain. We hurt others
and they hurt us. The wounds
that someone inflicts on us can
cut so deeply that we carry the
scars our entire life. If that
person is someone that we loved
and trusted, the pain is even
more acute. When we think
about offering them our
forgiveness and mercy, it is easy
to say, “They don’t deserve
mercy.” And, you might be right.
If we put ourselves in front of
a holy and loving God, it is easy
to see how we don’t deserve
mercy either. We all have regrets.
We have hurt others, we have
hurt ourselves, we have hurt
God, and we don’t have the
ability to make amends.
Still He calls us to come to
Him and experience His mercy.
This “Year of Mercy” is the
perfect time to reflect on your
own life and ask for God’s
forgiveness and grace.
Open your heart to accept it
as a free gift from our Creator.
Then ask for the grace to forgive
those who have hurt you. It is a
free gift that you offer to them,
but the graces that come from
that forgiveness will heal you
even more.
“The favors of the Lord are
not exhausted, his mercies are
not spent; they are renewed
every morning, so great is his
faithfulness. (Lam. 3:22-23)

Major League Milestones
As spring gets into full swing,
so does Major League Baseball.
From opening day to the last
game of the World Series in the
fall, baseball fans will be
cheering for their favorite teams
and players. Hit a trivia home
run by learning these fun facts:
• Hall of Famer Hoyt
Wilhelm hit a home run
during his first at bat as a
rookie pitcher. His career
lasted for 21 more years,
but he never hit another
home run.
• Cincinnati Reds catcher
Johnny Bench could hold
seven baseballs in one
hand.
• Baltimore Orioles shortstop
Cal Ripken Jr. didn’t miss a
game in 16 years. From
1982 to 1998, he played in
2,632 consecutive games.
• Deion Sanders is the only
man to play in both a
World Series and a Super
Bowl.
• The longest professional
baseball game lasted 8
hours and 6 minutes. After
25 innings, the Chicago
White Sox beat the visiting
Milwaukee Brewers 7 to 6.
