WELCOME JESSE
I do not at all
understand
the mystery of
grace - only
that it meets
us where we
are but does
not leave us
where it
found us.
Anne Lamott
This year Enable welcomed Jesse to Enable. On
Thursday, 10 January, Jesse and Shannon went
on a road trip adventure to Xscape to the Cape,
Family Fun Park, in Quindalup. Leaving home at
9.00am with music CD's in hand and travelling
to the park, Jesse was eager to try out the
trampolines, mini-golf, train ride and maze
amongst other attractions.
In the photo Jesse is conquering the Wacky Putt
mini-golf which had lots of surprises along the
18 hole course to keep everyone on their toes
and laughing!
Jesse called into the Enable office on his way
back home and seemed to have thoroughly
enjoyed his day, chatting away about the golf
and the train ride. What a fantastic start to the year and great to know Jesse
and Shannon enjoyed their day! We look forward to sharing more adventures
with Jesse in future.
CHRISTOPHER’S GARDENING SKILLS
Recently Christopher has been working
miracles using his gardening skills
alongside support workers David
Radovan and Bjorn Chorley.
Each Monday Christopher has been
mowing, trimming trees and shrubs,
clearing gutters and spreading mulch at
a customer’s home.
The picture shows the transformation
has been a result of much hard work!
Congratulations Chris! If anybody
would like some gardening done we
may be able to help. Please contact Sarah on 9792 7500.
JOSHUA TRIES ABSEILING
Joshua overcame his fears and jumped
backwards off a cliff, attached only to a thin rope!
He abseiled down a 30 metre drop and then went
on to conquer the 45 metre drop, as part of the
City of Bunbury’s Unleashed Program. If you are
school aged and would like to be involved in a
local holiday program contact Sharon at Enable.
Sharon coordinates the Enable School Holiday
Inclusion Program.
SUPPORT WORKER HOURS
It’s really important that we all have an
understanding about how Support Worker
hours are allocated, as there seems to be
some confusion about why some Support
Workers appear to gain more hours even
though they may have been working with us
for less time than other Support Workers who
have been requesting additional hours of work
and have not yet been offered them.
This can be a really difficult situation for
Coordinators to manage and it happens
because of a number of factors. As I’m sure
you are all aware, when placing staff with the
individuals we support, there is a very careful
matching process.
This process is very much led by the
preferences of the people we support and also by the skills and interests of staff, their
available hours and how they relate to what we are working to achieve with the
individual. So this might mean, for example, that we have a number of individuals who are
looking for a young male to develop their skills in sport. This means that a Support Worker
who comes to Enable and who meets that set of criteria might secure work with that
individual, who has identified that that as their preference, and not an existing staff member
if the match is not there. This means that others who are looking for extra hours, but who
are not the match for that situation, may not be considered in that instance. This happens
quite a lot.
There are also other factors to consider: Some support staff may request additional hours
but are only available at certain times and therefore when a new Support Worker is recruited
and they have the availability, and are the match that is required, then they will be given
those hours. We know this may be frustrating for those who need or would like additional
hours and are not being offered them, however, please be assured that where Support
Workers have requested additional hours, this is communicated across the whole team in
order that potential matches can be found and Coordinators will do their best to meet the
needs of those Support Staff.
KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR
If you do not want to be lose your head, best you be down on
your knees begging mercy.
Marcus’ recent addition to his armoury of a Scottish Claymore
Barbarian sword will see certain defeat of any enemy crazy
enough to take him on. Are you a collector? Why not share your
passion with us! Contact Sonia with your story.
I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can
gather strength from distress, and grow brave by
reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to
shrink, but he whose heart is firm, and whose
conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his
principles unto death ... Thomas Paine

AERIAL PHOTO SHOOT THANKS TO DONORS
On 18 December we invited some of the people that helped
make the Aerial Photo Shoot possible to an afternoon tea to
thank them for their contribution.
Pictured are Jeff Henderson from Henderson Photographics
who took the photo, Pamela Kay from Bunbury Flying School
who provided the plane and pilot, Peter Wright and Paul Wood
from the City of Bunbury who supplied the Cherry Picker, and
our CEO Rob Holmes.
If you would like a printed copy of the Aerial Photo please
contact Adam Johnson on 9792 7500.
ROTARY SAIL INTO LIFE RECOGNISED
Each year at the City of Bunbury the Mayor holds a
Garden Party for not-for-profit and volunteer groups.
One group who has done outstanding work for the
community on a very limited budget are given an award,
and this year Rotary Sail Into Life received a Special
Commendation.
Pictured is Sharon Kavanagh receiving the certificate
from the Mayor, and the winners of the Award the
Bunbury Multicultural Group.
HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE ENABLE CLIENT COMMITTEE!
We hope that a safe and happy holiday was had by all. It was
great to see everyone that came to last year’s Christmas Party.
This year, we have already hit the ground running planning several
projects. Watch this space as we plan documentaries, fundraising
barbeques, quiz nights and much more. Want to get involved? We
are always keen to welcome new members. Committee meetings
are currently held fortnightly at 12.30pm Tuesdays in the Enable
offices, Beach Road. If you are keen to join, please contact Eleanor
Yates on 9792 7500 for more information. Best wishes from the
Enable Client Committee.
STAFF CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE
The Staff Consultative Committee election process has been
completed and successful committee members will be notified after
28th January when Donald Msapenda, HR Officer, returns from annual
leave. A comprehensive training package has been developed for
committee members and will be distributed prior to the first meeting.
Donald will be chairing this committee.
This is an important group and one that will have responsibility for
giving a greater voice to staff. Support Workers make up the largest
representative group on the committee and hopefully this will assist
Support Workers by increasing their opportunities to have a say in the
way we operate. The committee will be introduced to you once they
have been notified.
