Read the definition and answer the question. The course options provide specific suggestions for
enrolling in a language class.
I. Native Speaker

to communicate at the speaking,
reading, writing, and listening level
comparable to a native speaker of
the language who lives in a Spanishspeaking country.

111 or in Spanish 112.
 You may consider upper level
Spanish courses based on the
department’s offerings each
semester.
 You may consider other

II. Heritage Learner

Definition: A heritage learner is a
person who may understand Spanish
and who communicates in English or
in code-switching by mixing Spanish
and English in the same sentence.

learner who has never studied the
language in the classroom. True
