Nitrification Notes
Word Bank Scene 1
DNA – amino acids – nitrification – ammonia – nitrates
What is Nitrification?
Hello, I am Carter and today we will be talking about _____________. As
you can see we are at the hog pin, and there’s a big hog there, anyways
nitrification is the process of _______ being broken down into ________. Nitrates
help plants and animals build ___________ and ___, which help us stay alive, and
now I will go to Annaclair whom will tell us about ammonification.
Word Bank Scene 2
bacteria - compost pile - Nitrification – Ammonification -
What is Ammonification?
Ok, since _____________ is a small part of the nitrogen cycle I’m going to
expand the topic a bit and talk about ammonification.______________ is the
breaking down of plants and animals by bacteria and certain fungi. The
____________ is a good example of this because it shows what I just said, the
breaking down of dead plants and animals with ________.
Word Bank Scene 3
ammonia - Nitrosomonas – nitrites - nitrobacters
Process of Nitrification
As you can see, hogs poop, but the poop doesn’t simply stay on the ground.
It gets recycled into the ground through a process called ammonification.
____________, a bacteria, converts the _______ into ________ however nitrites
are still useless to the plants. So we need one more step to convert the useless
nitrites into usable nitrates.
The nitrites are converted into nitrates by nitrobacters. Nitrates go into the
tree, which then go back into the hog.
Word Bank Scene 4
Enzymes – muscle – proteins - nitrates
How are Nitrates Used?
Nitrates are used in plants and animals in the creation of Proteins. Proteins
give our cells information. Proteins can also help with the creation of bones,
______, and tissue which make up our body and help us move. They can also help
your digestive system in the form of _______. As you can see ________ are very
useful in everyday life.
Word Bank Scene 5
Fertilizer - turn - vegetable - healthy - composting - moisten
How to Experience Nitrogen on Your Own
A great way to experience nitrogen on your own is through ________.
Compost piles can be easily placed in your yard if you have a garden. They help
make ___________ that is healthier for your plants and costs less than fertilizer in
stores. Compost piles are fairly easy to make all you need to do is first you need to
put down a layer of leaves, and grass where you want to start your pile. Then you
need to put down another layer of __________, fruits and other things. Then a
layer of soil, and then you need another layer of leaves and sticks, finally
___________ it and remember to _________ it every once and a while. Once you
have this you will have _______ fertilizer that is cheaper than in stores.
