Croudace Festival 5k Race – 9.30am Sunday 7 May 2017 Thank you for your registration and congratulations for taking up the challenge of this unusual race! We are really looking forward to seeing you. This is your pre-race information pack, hopefully it will answer any questions you may have! Parking & Toilets Please use Festival Place parking (charges do apply) or other town centre car parks, follow signs for Festival Square and the cinema to find the start area. Plenty of toilets are available in Festival Place. There are also some free parking spaces in Waitrose Carpark – first come first served, available until 11am. Refreshments There are a number of cafes and restaurants around the start area, that we expect to be open for drinks and snacks before and after the race, keep your eye on Facebook for any special offers for runners. Timing Chip Collection & Baggage Drop When you arrive you will need to collect your running number and timing chip from the information desk, this will be located under the arches in Festival Square next to Wagamamas. Your timing chip is integral to your running number, so you only have to collect one thing. You must then attach the running number to your front with safety pins – it’s really important it is secure as otherwise you won’t get a time! The free baggage drop will be in the same location managed by St Michael’s Hospice and if you are able a small donation would be appreciated. The baggage is supervised but we can accept no responsibility for losses or damage so we recommend that you do not leave valuables. A list is published on the web site before the event telling you your running number - it would be helpful if you could make a note of this as it will make it quicker for us find your race number. Warm-up The warm-up will be led by the Time4Training at around 9.15am. Notes on the Race Course for Runners This is a rather unusual race course and the urban environment inevitably means that there are some trip hazards, changes of surface, street furniture, tight turns and other obstacles to avoid or be wary of, and the floor in Festival Place will be slippery if it is wet. Please listen out for announcements on the PA system and instructions from marshals, there are roads to cross on Basing View and there will be traffic. Marshals will warn if there are vehicles approaching – please put your safety and the safety of others ahead of your desire for a fast time. There will be a lead cyclist and a last runner marshal. Please note that the race course is the same as last year but different to previous years so please look out for signs and marshals to keep you on course. Timetable From 8.00am - collection of timing chips 9.15 - Warm-up 9.30 - Race starts in Festival Square 9.50 - First runners return 10.30 - Last runners return 10.15 - Prize giving All timings are subject to change so listen out for announcements. First Aid There will be a first aid facility in the start/finish area and first aiders will be circulating the route. Sports Therapy Physical Balance will be offering pre and post race sports therapy massage to help with race recovery – just make a small donation to St Michael’s Hospice to take advantage. They will be in Festival Square. Spectators There are some great places for spectators to watch the race and we would love you to bring friends and family to support you the best places to watch are: In Festival Place on the upper mall you will have a bird’s eye view of the first part of the race Outside the restaurants and cafes in Festival Square please keep out the path of runners as they will be speeding through! please stay behind the barriers so you don't get in the way of runners In Eastrop Park - near the bandstand would be the best view. Remember the race will be over quite quickly so we suggest spectators stay close to the start/finish area and you will also see the runners go past twice! Prizes Trophies will be awarded to the fastest running club and fastest non-running club team, the winners will be based on the position of the first three team members across the line. There will be prizes for the first, second and third male and first females to cross the line (Festival Place vouchers). Sponsors A huge thank you to our sponsors Croudace Homes, without whom this race wouldn’t be possible. Our thanks to Festival Place for allowing us to use their shopping centre and for helping with the arrangements and prizes. Thanks also to Time4Training, Physical Balance, Fyffes, and Ian Byett from Basingstoke & Mid Hants Athletics Club for commentating and to Waitrose for the water station by their store and for their parking. Big Thanks to all Our Helpers! All the marshals are volunteers – many of whom are from the local running community, if you aren’t too exhausted please acknowledge them on your way round, it will be much appreciated (they will have had to get up much earlier than you!). Special thanks to Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletics Club, Chineham Park Running Club, Tadley Runners and Overton Harriers who have all contributed marshals, and to Rob Harrison our lead cyclist. A big thank you also to St. Michael’s Hospice who are running the baggage drop and collection of running numbers – the best way to show your appreciation is to put a few pennies in their collecting tins! Thanks also to the team of Basingstoke Guides and Brownies who will be at the finish line handing our medals, goodies and water.
