Seville City Tour – What will you see – Sunday 5th June? The coach will pick us up at the Barcelo Hotel at 9:00 am for a panoramic tour of Seville. We will see the great Maria Luisa Park, named after Infanta Maria Luisa, who presented to the town the gardens of her palace in 1893, Torre de Oro (Tower of Gold) ‐ A Moorish tower located at the river and opposite the bullring Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza. Crossing the river we will enter the Barrio de Triana. After the panoramic drive we will be dropped off for a walking tour throgh Barri Santa Cruz: A romantic part of town, formerly the district of Moors and Jews, that is located in the historical center. We will walk the narrow shady lanes and visit some of the town’s major monuments such as: The Cathedral of Seville, the biggest Gothic Catherdral in the world. It was built in the 15th Century, after the destruction of the old Mosque. The 200 foot high Minaret, called La Giralda is a landmark of the city. The Cathedral opens at 2:30 pm on Sundays, so we will not be able to enter it for the tour. However, we will enter and tour the king’s palace “Alcazar” which is opposite the Cathedral. The Alcazar was begun in 1181 and continued for over 500 years, mainly in Mudejar style, but also Renaissance. The Alcazar was preserved by the Christians because of its beauty and artistic meaning. The walk will continue to observe some of the other building located in a single large square (The Archivo de Indias – an archive of all the documents related to the discovery of America; the Archiepiscopal Palais and many manorial houses). Lunch will be served at the El Cabildo Restaurant, in the square (also named Cabildo) located opposite the Cathedral. Inside the restaurant is still remains the XIII century Almohade wall that defended the city from its invaders. The restaurant is in a building of Andulusian flavor and all flavours of traditional Andalusia cuisien will be tasted.
