a sample of recently made films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile,
Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Perú, Suriname and Venezuela.

Argentina: SHOWROOM (Comedy)
Dir: Fernando Molnar / 2014 / 75 min
Diego, a man that has just lost his job as a master of ceremonies
in events, finds himself with many debts. He has no other choice
but to sell his home and go live with his wife and daughter in Tigre
Delta, at a relative’s weekend house with money he has borrowed.
Very depressed and without ever feeling at home in this new place,
Diego, played by Diego Peretti, finds an opportunity to become a
salesman in a building showroom, unleashing a series of absurd
events that take him to the edge of obsession and madness.

Cuba: CUBA LIBRE (Historical Drama)

An epic super-production set during the War of Cuban
Independence, also know as the Spanish-American War. Cubans
have been fighting against Spain for many years. In 1898, the
American government using as an excuse the explosion of the
battleship Maine, jumps into the war siding with the Cubans.
Told through the eyes of two Afro-Cuban children caught up in
the chaos of war and living through the moment when Spain is
defeated until the Americans take over...

Ramona is a fat woman with too much weight and barely any luck,
her universe seems to be collapsing after a series of unfortunate
events. But everything will soon get better thanks to some
magical beetles she finds in a Tarot café.

This hilarious comedy tells the story of Toña and Paquita, the
housekeepers for the aristocratic González-Dubois family. These
domestic employees have been mistreated for quite some time
and they are tired of their situation. So when the family plans a
shopping trip to Miami, the maids have a plan of their own; to
take control of the mansion. Unexpectedly, they will also discover
a family secret

The story of Diego, a young and successful photographer that
lives in a glamorous world of fashion, shallowness and excess.
A tragic accident turns his world around; his partner is now in a
coma. Unexpectedly, and right at this terrible time, Diego must
take care of his son, Armando. Now, both of them have to adapt
to each other; Armando to the unknown, homosexual world of his
father, and Diego to the closed attitude of his teenage son.

The story of Brazilian popular singers and song writers Luiz
Gonzaga and his son Gonzaguinha, who meet, separate and
reunite in their journey, until they finally get to truly understand
each other, just before the final farewell. The father hits the road
to try and fulfil his destiny, leaving back a motherless little boy.
When the father comes back, the family struggles to find a way
to forgiveness. A story about how music at once united and tore
a family apart, making both father and son famous and beloved
nationwide. A story about unconditional and infinite love.

stronger presence at international film festivals. Three short films
shot in Jamaica with a 100 per cent Jamaican crew, 100 per cent
Jamaican talent, and 100 per cent Jamaican production service
companies.

Perú: A LOS 40 (Comedy)
Dir: Bruno Ascenzo / 2014 / 100 min
A los 40 dominated 2014 box offices in Peru and went on to
become the second highest-grossing Peruvian film of all time.
The comedy follows a group of 40 year-olds as they prepare for a
casual reunion with old friends that will force them to re-examine
their lives.
A festival celebrating Latin American
and Caribbean cinema with a sample
of recently made films from Argentina,
Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico,
Panama, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.
It is an opportunity to discover more
about the vibrant and diverse Latin
American and Caribbean cultures
through the films showcased at the
festival that range from comedy, to
contemporary and historical drama.
A tantalizing sample of Latin and Caribbean foods and drinks will also be
available during the run of the festival.
The event is sponsored and organized
by the Group of Latin American and
Caribbean Embassies (GRULAC) in
South Africa and is hosted in collaboration with the Open Window Institute
School of Film Arts. Join us for this
