St. Robert Parish
The Ninth Decade
1992-2002
• April 1992 - The Family After School Program
(Milestones) planned to move into part of the
Parish Center (former convent).
• September 12, 1992 - Following the installation of Fr. Pulice as pastor, a potluck supper was
held in the gym.
• March 22, 1992 - The Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra presented its annual Sacred
Music Concert in St. Robert Church.
• November 1992 - St. Robert Church was designated as a Milwaukee County Historical Landmark by the Milwaukee
County Historical Society.
• May 22, 1992 - Mark Jones, transitional deacon at St. Robert since spring, 1991, was ordained at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Fr. Jones celebrated his Mass of Thanksgiving
in St. Robert Church on June 14.
• June 21, 1992 - A farewell reception was held
for Fr. Cerpich between Masses. He became the
new pastor of St. Mary,
Random Lake and St.
Nicholas, Dacada, and
administrator of St. Patrick, Adell.
• June 26, 1992 - Rev.
John J. Pulice became the
sixth pastor of St. Robert
Parish.
• July 4, 1992 - St.
Robert Parish received
the Pride of Shorewood
Award for the exterior appearance of the
Rev. Henry G. Mueller III (Fr. Hank) campus at the Family Day
died unexpectedly during the night Activities Fourth of July
of the Emerald Auction, March 13, Celebration.
1994. An autopsy showed cause
of death as traumatic pain caused
by a benign tumor pressing on the
brain. Many priests of the Archdiocese, Fr. Hank’s family, parishioners
and friends attended Fr. Hank’s
funeral Mass on St. Patrick’s Day.
• August 1992 - Fr.
Pulice began celebrating
the daily Masses in the
Church. They had been
celebrated in the Parish
Center chapel since 1989.
• November 1992 -The
Saturday 4:30 p.m. Mass
was signed for the hearing
impaired by parishioner

• March 27, 1993 - A ceilidh (dancing, refreshments,
fun) benefit for three
Shorewood businesses destroyed by fire was held in the gym.
• August 1994 - The elm tree that stood for so
many years between the church and school was
removed because of Dutch elm disease. The tree
was on the property in 1912 when the parish
was incorporated.
• April 1995 - A new crucifix was installed over
the tabernacle in time for Palm Sunday. Parishioner Dan Grunst designed and carved the corpus
and built the cross.
• June 1995 - Rev. Richard Brietbach, after many
years of residency in St. Robert Rectory, moved
to other accommodations.
• August 20, 1995 - The 10:30 a.m. Mass was
celebrated in honor of our veterans. An honor
guard was present and many parishioners who
were veterans of several wars attended the Mass.

Communion Service was initiated on Saturday mornings,

• June 1998 - Fr. Pulice had heart bypass surgery at St.
Mary’s Hospital. Associate Pastor Roman Stikel, who had
lived away from the parish, moved into the Rectory to
become administrator during Fr. Pulice’s recovery leave.
• July 1998 – The north shore parishes collaboration
group began a new program called Catholics Returning
Home.
• April 1999 - Permanent Deacon Dan Zozak joined the
parish staff. His ministry was to the sick and homebound.
• May 20, 1999 - The Mass of Resurrection, with Bishop
Richard Sklba presiding, was celebrated for Msgr. Harold
O. Prudell, fourth pastor of St. Robert Parish.
• August 1999 - The Farwell Avenue entrance to the
church was closed for two months for rebuilding of the
steeple.
• July 20, 2000 - St. Robert Church was included in the
Tour of Houses of Worship sponsored by the Shorewood
Centennial committee.
• December 2000 - A new parish cookbook, At Our
Table, was presented. It was a project of the Home and
School Association.
• January 2001 - Fr. Pulice began a Sabbatical leave.
Rev. Michael Erwin, associate pastor, was named temporary administrator.

June 13, 1998 - Rev. Thomas S. Anderson, S.J., celebrated his Mass
of Thanksgiving at St. Robert after being ordained at the Church of
the Gesu the previous day. Fr. Anderson, an alumnus of St. Robert
School, is the son of parishioners Tom and Kay Anderson.
