-The Moon is a celestial body that rotates around the Earth. It has
no atmosphere so we would be unable to breathe there because
there is no oxygen.
-It is something that we can see in the night sky and sometimes even
in the daytime.
-The Moon rises and sets just like the Sun and it is interesting to
watch because we can usually see it easily without a telescope.
-The Moon causes the tides to rise and fall by its gravitational pull
on the Earth and the Earth causes quakes on the Moon.
-There is no gravity on the Moon so things weigh a lot less than they
do on Earth and this is why astronauts can jump really high when
they are walking on the Moon.
-Only twelve people have ever had the chance to walk on the Moon so
far!
-It takes approximately 27.3 days for the Moon to do a full orbit
around the Earth.
-The temperature on the Moon can be as low as -233 degrees and as
high as 123 degrees celcius.
For our craft lesson we decided to make a picture showing
the phases of the Moon.
We started by using ripped up masking tape and torn paper
and gluing it onto the page.
After the glue had dried properly we used some charcoal to
shade parts of the moon to look like craters and then we
coloured the whole moon with white oil pastel crayon.
Then we cut the Moon into a round shape and stuck it onto a
dark background. We cut out shapes for the eight phases of
the moon including the:
Full moon
Waxing Gibbous
First quarter
Waxing Crescent
New Moon
Waning Moon
Third Quarter
Waning Gibbous
With my Lego I made a space shuttle with a satellite. Shuttles
sometimes take satellites into space but they can’t fly all the way to
the Moon. It takes about 3 days to get to the moon but a space
probe can get there much faster. The last trip to the Moon was an
Apollo mission on December 7th, 1972. I like to look at the Moon and
I would like to go there one day.
