NEVADA GOOD SAMS SILVER LOG SUMMER 2015 UPCOMING EVENTS 2015 NEVADA STATE FALL RALLY SEPTEMBER 24 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 27, 2015 Dear Nevada Good Samers, Here is the Summer 2015 Silver Log for your information and enjoyment. Apparently many of us are travelling this summer as I only received responses from four chapters for this edition. Many thanks to those who shared your good times with us. Hope to see you in Winnemucca! Sheba, Asst. State Editor Dear Nevada Good Sam Members: It is time for the Silver Log mid-year update for our wonderful website -Nevadagoodsam.com. Joan Coppage, our State Editor, has collected new information from several of our chapters so you can enjoy reading about their campouts and travel adventures. There are also lots of pictures of happy campers enjoying their chapter friends and family. It is official again – Bill and I were elected to another 2-year term so we are very happy to get to have this fun job through 2017. We are very lucky to have a wonderful State Staff to assist us in running the great State of Nevada Good Sam organization. They are all great workers who enjoy providing all of our members with two fun rallies each year. We are doing lots of planning for the Fall Rally in Winnemucca September 24th through 27, 2015 and we are already working on the Spring Rally in Pahrump, March 31st through April 3rd, 2016. If you haven’t sent in your registration form for Winnemucca, please get it going soon. Of course the form is on the website. We do have plans for Early Bird activities on Wednesday before the official start of the Rally on Thursday. If you are coming early, you can participate in a lunch and some bingo play and then we will carpool to the Humboldt Museum for tours. The Museum is also adding in a Wine & Cheese Tasting as part of the tour. In Winnemucca, we are planning to have some evening entertainment and an open-mike night for anyone to come up and share their talents. We hope everyone will plan to check that out and stay and visit in the evenings. We also plan to continue the cooking event – this time with the Tailgating theme. We plan to collect the winning recipes and put them on our website for sharing. So bring your best Tailgating recipe and share it with the crowd. Bill and I look forward to seeing all of you at Winnemucca Events Center in September. If you have any suggestions, concerns, or problems, please contact me. Our email address is: [email protected] and my cell phone is: 702-274-7719 Thanks and happy camping, Dana Elmer, Nevada State Director Copper Hills Sams Chapter Activities January-June 2015 January 2015 got off to a good start for the Copper Hills Sams with a pizza lunch and meeting in Dayton. Dean provided us with an enjoyable slide presentation of the August camp out at the Topaz Lake RV Park. Everyone enjoyed the pictures, the music that accompanied them, and reminiscing about the good times at the campout. February February’s lunch and meeting were held at Round Table Pizza in Reno with two new couples attending. After indulging in the lunch buffet and catching up with chapter business, we enjoyed visiting with each other. March In March, six members traveled to Pahrump for the spring Samboree. The weather, RV Park, food, and games made it a very enjoyable time as we met and visited with new and old friends. Our small number of participants still made a good showing at the games and craft show. We appreciated the effort the State Staff put into scheduling all the new activities as we “followed the yellow brick road. “ April April found us in Quincy for our first campout of the year. The near-perfect spring weather was sunny and warm, and the group spent a lot of time sitting outside and talking about their winter activities. New members and guests added to the fun. Mexican Train and Cribbage tournaments were held along with bocce ball and crafts . Several ladies attended the quilt show in Portola and found time to shop at a quilt store, too. On Saturday evening, the group watched a movie in the clubhouse. Awesome sub sandwich bar provided by Trail Bosses Randy & Shirley Tiles were made for the craft project May In May, we camped at Rye Patch State Park. With the Drought themed campout we were treated to some much needed and welcome rain. In spite of the moisture, we were able to play games in two of the rigs, enjoy a campfire, and all the other activities planned by the Trail Bosses, including some tasty Dutch oven cooking. We also had a send-off for long time members, Pam and Gary (a past president of the chapter) who are moving out of state. We will miss them, but we share in their excitement as they build a new home. June June was a busy month for many members, so an alternative activity was planned instead of a campout. A round trip from Mound House to Virginia City on the V & T Railroad (steam engine) was scheduled for a Saturday. After sightseeing, shopping, and watching the activities on the main street of Virginia City, everyone enjoyed a group lunch at the Sawdust Café before boarding the train for the return trip. ** Copper Hills Sams ** RV HINT Think light! Mentally weigh everything you put in your RV. Is it necessary? Could you substitute something lighter? Can it do double duty? Desert Vagabonds, Nevada January 17th, we had a luncheon and meeting at Reds Old 395 Grill, in Carson City. We had visitors. It was great to catch up with everyone's holiday affairs. It was hosted by Lea & Gary Rogers. February 21st, luncheon and meeting at the Round Table Pizza in Carson City hosted by Jerry and Irene. 19 members and 2 guest. Of course the secretary and wagon master got lost and missed the luncheon but was there for the meeting. March was the State Rally. April 25th. our visit group campout was at Weed Height hosted by Art and Gail Salt. They fixed Art McMuffins (much better than McDonalds) which will be missed as they plan on traveling and will not be hosting Weed Heights next year. Two guest. Played many games. We had an auction to help with expenses of the Towner's family. Lots of bidding, laughter and bargaining. Wonderful to help others and have so much fun doing so. One of our long time members Joseph McKinney had open heart surgery and is recovering nicely. It rained most of the weekend but having a wonderful clubhouse we still ate and played games. May 23, 2015 was at Meadowcliff KOA RV park in Coalville, CA. Dick and Dianne Jones with Jim and Darlene Jones (not related if wondering) hosted a Mexican themed outing. Chips and Salsa along with Margaritas. Jim and Darlene Jones forgot their badges so Jim made badges so they would not be fined. Pictures says it all with masking tape and a marker, Jim even made sure they were in the shape of Nevada. So creative . Again it rained most of the weekend yet that did not matter we all had a good time visiting, playing games and eating. June 27, 2015 hosted by Stan and Jay Kapler. Vern Rigden brought his new Motorhome. Gertie Berkowitz blew the left front tire on her Motorhome coming home. Thank goodness that was all except nerves that were a little shaken. Guest included: Sophie & Joe Walker who want to join. Sophie learned to play Mexican train. Great weekend. Secretary, Desert Vagabonds Debbie Hight Great truths that adults have learned 1. Raising teenagers is like nailing Jell-O to a tree. 2. Wrinkles don’t hurt. 3. Families are like fudge…mostly sweet, with a few nuts. 4. Today’s mighty oak is just yesterday’s nut that held its ground. 5. Laughing is good exercise. It’s like jogging on the inside. 6. Middle age is when you choose your cereal for the fiber, not the toy. LAS VEGAS GOOD SAMS JANUARY OUTING – LAKE HAVASU BALLOON FESTIVAL Our January outing was held at the Lake Havasu Balloon Festival.. Eleven member rigs and one guest rig attended. Most folks took advantage of the Festival, getting up early to see the Morning Ascension and then enjoying the Evening Glow event. There were lots and lots of food vendors as well as other booths selling a variety of items. There was also live music to enjoy. During each day we enjoyed the many skydivers and biplanes. Bob and Edie hosted a Tailgate Party potluck on Saturday afternoon with everyone wearing their Team Shirts and Hats. FEBRUARY OUTING – LAKE MEAD RV VILLAGE SPRING 2015 NEVADA RALLY Dennis and Gerry Barker hosted the outing. There were 12 rigs attending, as well as 3 members visiting for the day Thursday was spent setting up and visiting with a campfire in the evening. On Friday, some of the group drove in to Boulder City and enjoyed dinner at Dillinger’s Restaurant. Las Vegas Good Sams were the Host chapter for the Rally. “WOW” A big congratz and thanks goes out to the State Staff for putting on a great Spring Rally. This was a fun one. Our chapter took the Chapter Challenge Flag for the third time straight and won the Spirit Flag for the FIRST TIME to make things even greater. Linda Woolacott won the Chapter Challenge with her Dutch Oven Lasagna. Glenn and Cynthia Rosenthal were welcomed as members and presented with their chapter “Spoon.” The potluck theme was “Foods U.S. Presidents were known for or their favorite foods.” We had quite an interesting combination of foods. We took 15 ribbons for 78 points to capture the Spirit Flag. Participation in the games was fantastic. Go LVGS! We also took third place in Beanbag Baseball. Our members Bill Taylor and Jack Weddle entertained the group with their music and “Taylor Trivia”. We also had a guest appearance on Thursday by Dana and Sametts and Jerry Slider who sang Chantilly Lace and Earth Angel. At our Sunday morning meeting we welcomed Clinton and Diane Arnett into the Chapter and they were presented with their “Chapter Spoon.” APRIL OUTING – TEMPLE VIEW RV PARK – ST. GEORGE, UTAH MAY OUTING – GRAND CANYON CAVERNS, AZ Jerry Bledsoe and Linda Woolacott hosted the outing. There were 12 members rigs and 3 guest rigs attending. Another record for attendance! Bob and Barbara Woolacott were welcomed as members in the chapter and presented with their “Chapter Spoon.” Welcome Bob and Barb. A large group enjoyed dinner Thursday evening at Pancho and Lefty’s Mexican Restaurant. Friday was spent visiting and playing games in the clubhouse. The “main event” took place Saturday morning with a Miniature Golf competition. The May 2015 Las Vegas Good Sam outing was held at Grand Canyon Caverns in conjunction with the Good Sam Western regional mini-rally. There were only four rigs attending. Although our chapter group was small, there were lots of fellow Good Sam members from all around the Western Region, including a small group of our friends from Pahrump. Unfortunately the weather was unseasonably cold and rainy. But the weather didn’t stop the group from enjoying the Grand Canyon Cavern’s tour (new to most of us) as well as great meals in the Cavern’s grill/restaurant. The tour was interesting and we all enjoyed it, bringing back some great pictures. Friday and Saturday night dinners were provided by the rally and were very good. Breakfast was then provided on Sunday morning so we didn’t have to cook much. The remaining times we congregated inside the Woolacott and Bledsoe/Woolacott rigs and had a fun time catching up and playing card and domino games. Since we didn’t have to cook many meals, we concentrated on making really good snacks and these were plentiful. Sunday was a beautiful day for the drive back and we were able to enjoy the scenery that we couldn’t catch on the way up. Prepared by Susan Crowley WE ARE ‘DARK’ FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS BUT LOOK FORWARD TO SEPTEMBER AND OUR OUTING AT NEVADA TREASURE RESORT AND THE FALL RALLY IN WINNEMUCCA! Our other future plans include attending the Beatty Days celebration in October, camping at Lake Mead RV Village in November and our Christmas party at Wine Ridge Resort in Pahrump. SOME BASIC RULES FOR DOGS 1. Newspapers: If you have to go pee while playing in the front yard, always use the newspaper that’s placed on the driveway every morning just for that purpose. 2. Visitors: Quickly determine which guest is afraid of dogs. Charge across the room, barking loudly, & leap playfully on this person. If the human falls down on the floor and starts crying, lick his/her face and growl gently to show your concern. 3. Licking: Always take a BIG drink from your water dish immediately before licking your human. Humans always prefer clean tongues. OVER THE HUMP TRAVELERS OVER THE HUMP TRAVELERS JANUARY 2015 Quartzsite, AZ (Dry camping) In the beginning there was 1. Gets a little cool in the evening so even the 4 leggers get ready. The main camp was in Scadden Wash located not far from all the happening in town. It is BLM land and free for up to 2 weeks. Pretty much pack it in and pack it out. There are a couple of business in town that you get fresh water or dump tanks. Also there is a black/grey water sucker truck that will come out to you if you don’t want to break camp. Companies change so check around and talk to the BLM volunteer that writes up your permit. They have some good contact numbers. If you cook, they will come.
