Introducing the PandA Project What does PandA stand for? PandA stands for Partner and A dvisor and is a project run by BGU University Library. What is a PandA and who can become one? A PandA is someone who chooses to take part in the Library’s PandA project. Any first year student can get involved provided they email <[email protected]> by 30 November 2015. What is the PandA project about? The aim of the project is to learn more about students’ experiences of using the University Library across their entire course, from enrolment to graduation, and so continuously enhance and improve Library Services for the benefit of the BGU community. If I sign up to become a PandA what will I have to do? You will initially be asked to complete a baseline questionnaire about how you have used libraries in the past and how you rate your library and research skills. Then, and for the duration of your course, you will be sent a questionnaire to complete three times a year, in December, March and May, asking about your experiences using the Library since the previous questionnaire. How long is the questionnaire and are the questions the same every time? The baseline questionnaire has nine questions and only has to be completed once. The main questionnaire has fourteen questions that have to be completed three times a year; the questions will be the same from year to year. How would I receive the questionnaire and how long would I get to complete it? All questionnaires are conducted online. On the day each questionnaire goes live all PandAs are emailed the link at the same time, together with the date that the next questionnaire will be sent out. Each questionnaire is normally live for ten days. Can I be a PandA for only part of my course? Not really – the point of the project is to learn about your experiences of Library Services from enrolment to graduation, so getting involved for only part of a course would diminish the results of the project. P.T.O. What are the benefits of becoming a PandA? We think there are several great reasons to become a PandA: 1) Each time a questionnaire is distributed you are entered into a prize draw to win a £25 book token. There are also smaller incentives along the way to encourage you to stay the distance. 2) It’s a chance to be involved in something new; we are not aware of any other university having done anything like this. 3) By becoming involved in the project you should become more confident about using the Library and about asking for help; this in turn will enhance your study skills and hopefully improve your grades! 4) You can add it to your CV and tell employers about it at job interviews. 5) You will be helping to enhance library services for yourselves and future generations of students. How long will the PandA project run for? We’re not entirely sure - it depends how successful it is! How will the results be used and shared? When each questionnaire closes the library team will review the results and follow up on any issues or questions raised. This may involve contacting and/or feeding back to the person that raised the issue. It may even mean feeding back to all PandAs or all members of the BGU community. At the end of each academic year Library Services will produce a report outlining the results of the project for that year, including notable trends, issues raised & addressed and action points for the future. A final report will be produced when the project ends. Who can I speak to if I have any questions? Reader Services Librarian Charlotte Everitt is responsible for coordinating the PandA project. Ask for her in the Library, email <[email protected]> or call 01522 585607.
