YouTube Guidelines

YouTube Guidelines
1. The teacher should have a clear idea of how a specific video clip can be used to
introduce a concept, theme, initiate a discussion, or serve as a writing prompt.
2. All videos must be previewed before class for applicability and appropriateness. No
video containing profanity, inflammatory language, violence, nudity or sexual content
should be used.
3. Always check to see if the video is still available immediately before class starts. Videos
on YouTube or other hosted sites are often removed without notice by YouTube or the
video provider.
4. Always have a back-up plan in case the video will not play.
5. Review the Suggested Videos (right side of the screen on YouTube) and the comments
(bottom of screen on YouTube). If these videos or comments are not appropriate, you
shouldn’t play the video or you should download the video when students are not
present and play the video file.
6. Turn on Safety Mode. Scroll to the very bottom of YouTube. By default, Safety Mode is
off. Click on Off. Select On and then click Save. Safety Mode will remove mature
videos from searches and hide objectionable comments. Login to your YouTube account
so YouTube will remember the Safety Mode setting.
7. Register with YouTube to create a video playlist or collection of favorites. You will be
able to view and play videos quicker.
8. If the video will not play, or will not play continuously or completely, these problems
may be caused by high traffic on the YouTube site. The video may also be marked for
viewing only viewers on a “Friends” or “Family” list.
