We are all like icebergs, we only see the tip

JUNE 2013
Instructor’s Corner
“We are all like icebergs,
we only see the tip”
www.elite-tkd.com
This is relatable to many people and we often
face it in our everyday life. As we go on with
our daily lives we often forget people we meet
have so much more to them than what we see.
Like an iceberg, people are deceiving. We see
this outer “picture” they portray but may not
always get to see beneath that picture. We
look at just the “tip” of the iceberg.
This causes me to reflect on many
relationships with I have made with others.
Who really knows me? Who just sees the tip
of the iceberg? I believe it is important to be
aware of others situations in life and not to
base our opinion or treat someone by what we
see. Awareness is the key to finding out who
we are and who others are.
From personal experience I have truly learned
that by being aware of others situations I have
become a better person in understanding
others and has really brought me closer to my
family and friends. I’ve explored and
discovered what is beneath the tip of others’
“icebergs” as well as mine.
As I sat down to write this I was unsure what I
could write that everyone could relate to and find
interesting. So, I decided to look up many writing
prompts that would trigger my mind to write
something. This was one of the prompts that
really caught my attention.
So I leave you with 2 simple questions.
Only 10% of an iceberg is seen while the other
90% is unseen.

(Kaitlyn)
How much do people really know about you?
How much do you think you know about
others?

ELITE SUMMER
CHALLENGE!
Have you wanted to get fit and/or lose weight but
are lacking motivation?? Do you stick to a
fitness/weight-loss program if you are part of a
group??
Well, Elite will be having a Summer Challenge!!
Join fellow members and/or parents of Elite
Taekwondo as we go on a summer journey!!
What is this Summer Challenge all about??
Every Monday, starting June 17, everyone signed
up for the Challenge will contribute $10 to the
“pot”.
This first day and every Monday at 6:00pm each
member of the Summer Challenge group will
weigh-in (yes – this will be done discreetly). One
man and one woman will be noting weights (for
calculation purposes only). Should the Monday be
a holiday – then weights will be taken the next
day (Tuesday).
The ultimate goal is to eat healthy, get fit and lose
weight!!!
ANYONE that is part of the Summer Challenge
AND is not an Elite Taekwondo member will be
WELCOME to join class and participate in the
Warmups and Stretches. This will give you at
least 3 workouts in your week!!!!!
Weight-loss will be calculated on an individual
basis. Although the goal is to lose weight, those
individuals who gain weight at the weekly weighin will contribute $5.00 to the “pot”.
What better way to GET FIT, GET HEALTHY
and be a part of a wonderful group of people all
looking for similar goals!!!
Bring any and all ideas you may have to share
with the group – whether it be fitness
workouts, healthy food choice and/or meal
plans.

Summer Attendance
This summer we will be encouraging you to
regularly attend Taekwondo classes.....
It has shown in previous years those that
regularly attend classes during the summer
months, are consistent with their techniques,
patterns and cardio.
We have seen students that take the summer
months off, require ―catch up time not only in
refreshing their techniques, trying to remember
their patterns, but also require to work harder to
get their cardio back to what is was in June. All
of this ―catch up‖ – in addition to Back to
School (for those younger students) can add a
lot of Stress to our martial artists.
With that being said – we are encouraging you
to continue training through the summer
months....
What is in it for YOU ??
Not ONLY will you continue to maintain your
techniques and cardio, but you will also earn
―points each time you attend class !!!
What can you do with these so-called
“points”??
At the end of the summer Elite Taekwondo will
be hosting a FUN day which involves an
Auction !! Yes, an auction !!! You will be able
to use your ―points to bid on various auction
items.
At the end of the Summer Challenge we will get
together as a group and celebrate ALL of our
accomplishments at a BBQ (healthy of course) –
which will be in part funded by the Summer
Challenge “pot”.
ATTENDANCE POINTS WILL START
ACCUMULATING JUNE 17, 2013.
Please see the office to sign up and see you June
17, 2013 at 6:00pm.
