Game Notes: Today’s game -- the Empire 8 Conference opener for both teams -- marks the 17th meeting
between the Alfred University Saxons and Buffalo State Bengals, with AU leading the all-time series 9-7. The
last time these two teams met, in Buffalo last year, Alfred claimed a 29-21 win. The last time these teams met in
Alfred, in 2013, the Saxons defeated the Bengals, 39-33 in double overtime.
About the Saxons: Alfred is 2-0 on the year after
Saturday’s 32-20 win over visiting RPI at rain-soaked
Yunevich Stadium.
The Saxons allowed three safeties and scored one of
their own while overcoming14 penalties to claim the
non-league win. Alfred led 26-4 early in the third before RPI ran off 16 unanswered to make
it close.

Sammy Davis (80 yards rushing) and
Derelle Hunter (71) each had long runs

sacks) and two forced fumbles. Senior
free afety Mike Berardi has 17 tackles
and sophomore corner Jared Watkins
has six pass breakups (one INT).
Whitehead
Sophomore Trevor Monk is 2-for-2 on
field goals and 7-for-7 on PATs. Sophomore Joe McMahon averages 42.2 yards on punts.
Davis averages 21 yards on kick returns and Fuentes
13.5 yards on punt returns.

About the Bengals: The Bengals were idle last Saturday, a week after shutting out host Otterbein, 29-0, in
their season opener.
The Bengals steamrolled Otterbein with 501 yards
of total offense, with 339 yards coming on the ground.
Tre Jones ran for 137 yards and two
touchdowns, while Dale Stewart (78
yards) and Antoine Holloman (72 yards)
each ran for a score.
Quarterback Kyle Hoppy threw for 88
yards and ran for 40, while backup Dan
Serignese passed for 63 yards. Hoppy

also ran six times for 40 yards.
Wide receiver Had Bryant caught
three passes for 44 yards and wideout Justin Medley
caught four for 35 yards.
Otterbein managed ony 114 yards of offense, including 15 on the ground, against a Buff State defense that
