WHY THE LIVER IS IMPORTANT FOR
ATHLETES
SUPREME LIVER
Hepatic Optimizer / Purifier
Supplement Facts
Impaired liver function means that your body will not
be functioning optimally, which leads to reduced athletic
performance. This is why liver cleansing is essential for
athletes who want to perform at their best. Athletes in general
have two characteristics that necessitate this cleansing.
First, they consume large amounts of protein, which is
broken down in the liver into amino acids, the building blocks
of muscle. Absorbing and utilizing protein efficiently is crucial
to muscle growth and recuperation. Secondly, many athletes
use hormone-boosting supplements such as androgens,
testosterone, estrogen and “pro-hormones.” All of these
substances can place a huge amount of extra stress on the
liver and your body may not eliminate them efficiently. This
excess stress on your liver can result in low energy levels,
drastically reduced growth, slow recovery and poor athletic
performance. Furthermore, poor liver function can cause
serious health risks, including prostate enlargement, ovarian
cysts, endometriosis and breast cysts (gynecomastia).
Hepatic (liver) function has a significant effect on
everything from fat loss to muscle growth. Any athlete
serious about performance should regularly cleanse their
liver. The body takes advantage of liver cleansing very well
because it is the only organ that will regenerate itself when it
is damaged.

needs because I am one.”
Immune System: The liver is the most important organ after the heart.
The liver stores and regulates the blood and activates the immune system.
The liver protects the body through the removal of foreign substances, the
formation of urea, serum albumin, glycogen and harmful proteins. The liver
makes the body’s main antioxidant glutathione by converting it from the
amino acid N-Acetyl Cysteine, which is stored in high concentrations within
the lymphocytes of the immune system. Glutathione is also vital to amino
acid transport, protein synthesis, peak power and recovery.
A healthy liver is critically important to athletes. It stores vitamins and
nutrients, makes and regulates vital chemicals, helps metabolize important
nutrients such as protein, breaks down harmful substances and cleans the
blood. High protein intake, intense training, steroids, alcohol, pollutants and
certain supplements can cause enormous stress on the liver, reducing its
efficiency and diminishing health, performance and recovery.
Detoxification/Purification: The liver is one of your body’s main
defensive mechanisms. It captures and breaks down harmful substances from
our food (i.e., drugs, pollutants, alcohol, fried oils, partially digested proteins,
etc.) and continuously cleans your blood. These substances all take their toll
on our liver, as the liver can store these fat-soluble chemicals for years.
It helps remove these harmful substances before they have a toxic build-up
by forming and secreting bile, removing ammonia, and excreting things like
heavy metals or dyes. Using enzymes, the liver
transforms these chemicals into watersoluble substances that can be excreted
though the kidneys or the gastrointestinal
tract. Approximately 2 quarts of blood
pass through the liver every minute to be
detoxified.
SCIENCE OF LIVER FUNCTION
THE FORMULA
The liver is one of our most important organs. All of our organs, glands and
tissues are dependent upon the liver as it is vital for managing metabolism,
supporting the immune system and detoxifying the blood. Everything we eat
and drink (including supplements) that gets absorbed through our intestines
goes directly to the liver.
Vitamin B-6: Some studies show
a correlation between impaired liver
function and a B-6 deficiency. B-6
performs a wide variety of functions in
your body. It is needed for more than 100
enzymes involved in protein metabolism,
for red blood cell metabolism, for making
hemoglobin (which carries oxygen to
tissues) and also for helping to manage
your blood glucose (sugar) level.
Supreme Liver™ is an all-natural formula, developed with scientifically
proven, targeted ingredients to optimize the health and efficiency of the liver.
This complete formula contains a potent complex of phytonutrients (including
milk thistle seed extract which is shown in studies to help generate new
liver cells) that help detoxify the liver, enhance its efficiency and provide
antioxidant protection.
“The liver is vital for
managing metabolism,
supporting the immune
system and detoxifying
the blood.“
Metabolism: The entire body depends
on the liver for nourishment. The liver
performs hundreds of metabolic functions,
including carbohydrate, protein, lipid,
mineral and vitamin metabolism and the
storage of glycogen. The liver chemically
changes many foods into vitamins and enzymes. It manufactures bile to
digest fats, converts carbohydrates into glucose for brain fuel and glycogen
for muscular energy, breaks down proteins into usable amino acids to
produce enzymes and repair muscle, and stores nutrients to be secreted as
needed by the body to build and maintain body cells.
Hormones, such as testosterone, estrogen, insulin and adrenaline, are
metabolized by the liver. Inefficient liver function can lead to hormone
imbalances. The liver is also vital for the production of heat via thermogenesis
(burning calories) and demands about 12% of all your body’s energy to
perform over 500 different tasks in regulating your metabolism every single
day. When liver function is diminished, your metabolism gets sluggish or
inefficient, and your entire body suffers.
Hepatic Optimizers/Purifiers
N-Acetyl Cysteine: Oral supplementation with N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC)
has been shown in studies to boost intracellular glutathione. Glutathione is an
extremely powerful antioxidant that is manufactured in the liver. Vast amounts
of glutathione are amassed in the liver, where it detoxifies harmful compounds
so they can then be expelled via the bile. As we age, our natural levels of
glutathione decline.
Milk Thistle Extract (Silymarin): This herb is well known as a potent liver
tonic. The active ingredient in milk thistle is silymarin, which is extracted from
the seeds of the plant. It is believed to help alter the outer membrane of liver
cells, preventing toxic substances from entering the liver, helps stimulate the
regenerative capacity of the liver by increasing ribosome synthesis (renews
liver cells), and has a powerful antioxidant effect, clearing free radicals from
the liver. It also believed to increase the quantity of the powerful liver protector
glutathione and improve protein synthesis in the liver.
R-Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA): ALA helps increase the body’s production
of glutathione, which helps dissolve toxic substances in the liver. There
have been several case reports of use of ALA in combination with milk
thistle to help treat liver disease.
Choline Bitartrate: Choline is required to metabolize fats. Without it,
fats become trapped in the liver, where they block metabolism. People
who are choline-deficient have been shown to develop liver and kidney
disorders, high cholesterol and atherosclerosis.
Artichoke Extract: A member of the milk thistle family, this plant has
been shown to have liver-protective and liver-restorative abilities. Clinical
studies have shown it has a significant ability to stimulate the secretion of
bile in the liver. Artichoke extract is also able to stimulate regeneration of
damaged liver tissue. Some studies have demonstrated it can help prevent
or reduce buildup of fat in the liver from chronic alcohol consumption. Other
studies have established it helps lower cholesterol and reduces waste
products of protein metabolism. This is very beneficial for people on high
protein diets.
Dandelion Root: This plant has been used for centuries to help with
liver and bile ailments. The therapeutic properties of dandelion are due
in part to its bitter substances, taraxacin and inulin. The bitters stimulate
the digestive glands in the liver and activate the flow of bile. Numerous
scientific studies have shown it can enhance liver healing and it has
been successfully used to treats hepatitis, liver swelling, jaundice and
indigestion.
Turmeric: The active component in Turmeric is curcumin, which is
has been used to help relieve liver damage and stimulate bile production.
Turmeric shares similar liver-protectant compounds with milk thistle
and artichoke. Studies have shown that it can shrink engorged hepatic
ducts, making it beneficial in treating liver conditions such as hepatitis,
cirrhosis and jaundice. It also has potent antioxidant activity and strong
anti-inflammatory properties that can be helpful in recovering from
training injuries. *
