TIME TO HAVE FUN! by Ryan McMillen
Since we’ve been discussing so many of the
pitfalls that can affect you and your
computer, we here at CCS Technologies
have decided to lighten things up a bit and
let you know about three wonderful websites
that can become indispensable tools for
you. Let’s get started.
What’s all the hubbub about Google?
www.google.com is a very accurate search
engine. This much is
true. However, did
you know Google
can do much more
than just search for sites? It is actually an
intelligent program that can help you with a
myriad of tasks. Say you want to know how
to convert temperature. Simply type the
following into the Google box: “convert 33
degrees Celsius to Fahrenheit” Google
prints out the result right at the top! It works
great for measurements (how many cups in
a quart) distance (kilometers to miles) and
just about everything else you can think of!
How about this: have you ever gotten a
telephone call from someone but don’t know
who it is? If all you have is the telephone
number, simply type the number (area code
included) into Google and it will do a
reverse-lookup on the number. If the
number is listed in phone books, you will
see the caller’s name and possibly their
address! Looking for a picture of
something? Type it into Google and click
“images.” It’s that simple. And if you haven’t
used Google Maps, you don’t know what
you’re missing (type maps in the search box
and click Google Maps.)
The new way to learn about stuff. When I
want to learn about something, I no longer
start at the search engines anymore. The
problem with search engines is, it is too
easy to stumble upon a fake advertisement
site or it is too hard to disseminate the
information from the list of results. Now I
use Wikipedia ( www.wikipedia.org ) It is my
favorite new tool and it will probably be
yours too if you’re an information junkie like
myself. Wikipedia is a constantly changing
and evolving online encyclopedia that can

Honorable Mentions:
Intellicast.com : Great resource for weather
junkies who like animated satellite and RADAR
maps, even right down to county level.
Podcast.net : The Internet’s newest buzzword.
The best place to go to find “radio” shows
created by ordinary people about a variety of
topics. Not sure what a podcast is? Look it up
on Wikipedia!
ccstech.net : OK, maybe we’re a little biased
about this one…but it does have some
fantastic information! Check it out!
