ADDING SPIKES TO A HAIR BOW: measure the finished width of the hair bow and add 1” – 2” to the ribbon strip. For instance, if the bow measures 5 inches wide, then make each spike 6” – 7” inches wide. If, after your spike is added to your hair bow and the tails are too long, simply trim and re-seal each end. Once you become more experienced with using spikes, you will be able to determine your own style and how long you like the spikes. For this demonstration, 3 spikes of 1 ½” solid grosgrain ribbon will be used, each measuring 6”. Have a needle & thread ready (with a knot at the end of the thread). STEP 1 Cut the desired amount of ribbon strips to the same length. Cut the tails to your desired shape (vcut/angled, etc.) & heat seal the ends. Place all the pieces directly on top of each other, as shown. STEP 2 Fold the ribbon in half. Note the small “loop” in the middle of the ribbon. STEP 3 Take the needle up through the middle of the loop but DO NOT take the needle all the way through. The ribbon should be in the middle of the needle. STEP 4 Spread out the spikes on the needle and shape as desired. Pull the needle and thread all the way through until the knot stops at the back. STEP 5 Take the thread over the top of the “X” as shown. Tug gently. TOTT Hair Bow Instructions – Spike Hair Bow – These instructions may not be reproduced or copied. Continue taking the thread around the center, pulling each time, until there is no more “give”. Turn the bow over to the back and tie a knot. Finish off as desired.
