Defib Disco last Friday Night
Last Friday night the Parents and Friends Group and DJ Slavco, did an amazing job of hosting the Defib
Disco for our students. As we said last week, funds raised from this event will go towards the purchase of
a new defibrillation device for our school and community. We can proudly announce that over $1300.00
was raised through tickets sales and sponsorship form Woolworths Curlewis and Drysdale. A huge thank
you to the PFG and the staff who attended on the night and to all of the students and parents for coming
as well. We look forward to putting these funds towards our Defibrillator and purchasing it once we have
raised enough.
Education State – Government Schools Funding Review
Last week I joined a selection of Principals from across the State to meet with the Hon. Steve Bracks to
look at the Government Schools Funding Review (Bracks Review). This Review has put forward dozens of
recommendations about how the Victorian Government might better meet the needs of students, and
have a greater impact through the strategic allocation and monitoring of resources. The core of this relates
to better utilising the strengths of government schools, to share their skills knowledge to help support
other schools. This may sound simple, but is a significant undertaking and one which will require many
schools to make a significant change in their thinking. As a school, we have always been very active in
sharing our skills and knowledge with other schools as we believe what we give and invest in others, will
eventually pay dividends for us, which has been the case on numerous occasions. In coming months the
Victorian Government will respond to this Review by examining how many recommendations, and in what
way, they will adopt to better support improving outcomes for Victorian students.
Federal Education Funding
At the core of the State Government funding moving ahead, will be the funding provided to the State via
government schools via the Gonski model. This model of funding which has only just started to deliver
benefits to our school, is due to start really delivering increased funding in 2018 but it is critically
dependent on the outcome of the Federal election as it is not supported by all parties federally. This
funding with it’s equity component, will deliver a far more appropriate and supportive funding model for
our students, should the Parties who support it, be elected. Other Parties see a very poor investment in
education along with some quite peculiar initiatives which have proven to fail the US and the UK such as
teacher performance pay being introduced which beggars belief.
Whilst I do not wish to be political as a leader of a government school, I would ask you to prioritise
education when you are at the ballot box as there are some very stark differences in the outcomes
depending on which Parties are elected and students in government schools will be hit the hardest by not
honouring the Gonski model.
New Network – Barwon South East
Our school was once part of the Geelong Bellarine Network which consisted of around 25 schools across
Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula. At the start of this year, our Region began to transition to new
Network arrangement, which for us means we are now in the Barwon South East Network. Our new
Network largely includes schools from across the Bellarine Peninsula but also includes the suburbs south
of the Barwon River including many Belmont and Highton schools. One of the key reasons for Network
arrangements is to provide Student Support Staff, including Network Psychologists, Speech Therapists and
Social Workers. As yet it is not clear how this model will change for us in delivery terms, because these
staff will be moving into a more centralised regional model as I understand it.
Last Thursday was our first meeting and I will be part of the Network executive team of Principals
supporting our Network Chair to lead and manage the Network. I look forward to being apart of shaping
and developing our Network to not only better meet the needs of our students and school, but the schools
across our Network as well.
Building works:
This week the task of moving the 3/4 classrooms into their temporary accommodations for term 3 will be
undertaken to allow the building works to take place in their current rooms.
Over the coming weeks
fencing will be erected and areas will be sectioned off to make sure they are safe and clear of all students
so works can commence.
Until next week I wish everyone a wonderful week and remind all families that maximising attendance is a
critical factor in your child achieving their potential so, remember it’s not OK to be away unless you’re sick!

GOLF CLINIC
Last Tuesday, as part of the PE program, all Year 3-6 students took part in a Golf Clinic
run by Tony Collier from Golf Victoria . It was a fantastic day with the winter sun shining on
the oval. This created great conditions for learning to drive off the tee. Many students
built upon their skills from previous clinics and the Year 3’s in particular, showed great
development of a new skill. Tony was very impressed with golf skills of the CSPS students,
with many showing great potential in the sport.
The clinic will help form part of the selection process for a golf tournament that CSPS is
entering at the Clifton Springs Golf Club next term.
For those who want to have further golf lessons, please watch the newsletter next term
as there will be clinics running at the Clifton Springs Golf Club in Term 4.
DISCO FOR DEFIB
The Disco for Defib was very well attended and we expect to achieve our goal of
$1000 to be donated to the school towards the purchase of a defibrillator machine.
An extra big THANKS to all the parents who helped on the night and those families
who attended. Also a big thank you to the students, it was a pleasure to serve you, we
appreciated your good manners and friendly behaviour, well done!
We would also like to thank and acknowledge Woolworths Drysdale and
Woolworths Curlewis for their sponsorship!
NARANA
On Monday 20th June all of the Prep students went on a bus and went to the Narana
Aboriginal Cultural Centre. We did many things while we were at Narana. We went on a
bush walk, we threw Boomerangs, we saw Emus and Wallabies, huts and many artefacts.
We played on a fantastic playground after eating our lunch and then caught the bus
back to school – which was a real highlight for many!
**Due to some confusion, Prep Students will be following up this activity with Boomerang
Painting and Damper Making at school (boomerangs supplied by Narana).
Preps have done some writing that they would like to share about their journey!
Emus run fast! We were told not to go to close to the Emu Dad because he WILL scratch!
Saphire Prep H
We went to Narana. It was so noisy on the bus. I was scared because it went really fast.
The swings at the playground was my favourite! Stella Prep H
I went on the bus with Mrs Holwerda and my friends and I liked learning about the Emus
but the Dad Emu is rough and when the Dad Emu pokes his head through the net I felt a
little scared! Arleya Prep H
Stop! Stop! We had to count our numbers to get on the bus. The bus was the biggest bus I
have ever been on I thought! Ethan Prep H
I didn’t
know Narana was so far away! It took
until 12 o’clock. I don’t know long it took to
get there.
Mason Prep H
Wow! The Boomerang flies so fast! Kayla
Prep J
When I went to Narana it was AMAZING!

SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITY IDEAS
School holiday are here! And I like it. Mind you, there is a balancing act required..... keeping the kids
busy enough so they are happy and that mum isn't too worn out and broke!
This school holidays, I’m looking forward to lazy mornings, no school lunches and the flexibility to do
things with the children when I want.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
1. Make an ant farm.
2. Bake and decorate cupcakes.
3. Make a cubby house under the table inside or outside.
4. Invite friends over to play.
5. Make homemade pizza.
6. Dance to music, play dress ups and do a play.
8. Make a themed play space: in a large rectangle bucket or tray create your own play scene. For
example: use a smaller container (like an empty margarine container) filled with water, and in the
rectangle bucket place rocks, small twigs, bark or sticks from trees for an outdoor scene.
9.Make fruit kebabs.
10. Do general gardening or plant a vegetable or herb garden.
11. Each person at home chooses their favourite board game & spend time playing each of them.
12. Create a family artwork on a large canvas.
13. Make recycled paper, make a leaf collage picture.
14. Be crafty at home: knit, paper craft, play dough, cooking or painting
15. Visit a museum
16. Go to the Geelong library. There is a whole floor set up for kids with books, games, computers etc.
17. Have a picnic outside and visit a park or playground.
18. Plan a day trip:
animal farm
new town
historical village
market
environmental centre
Hiking bush walking Drive up a mountain Visit the beach The country Theme park
20. Visit someone lonely.
21. Collect shells on the beach or go fishing.
23. Visit and share something of your own childhood with your child/ren. This may be a home you
lived in as a child, where you honeymooned or favourite place.
24. Go for a walk or a bike ride.
25. Enjoy yourself

Head lice is spread only through head to head
contact.
Lice DO NOT have wings, they CANNOT jump
or fly. They can only crawl. Not all lice will
cause an itch so you need to check your child’s
head REGULARLY!
 Notify the Office if your child has head lice.
An anonymous note will be sent home to your
child’s grade stating that a case of head lice
has been found and alL children’s hair should
be checked.
 If lice are found in your child’s hair, they
will need to be collected from school to be
treated.
TO CHECK HAIR CAREFULLY TAKES TIME!
 To find lice, cover dry hair with any
conditioner. This stuns lice and makes them
easier to find.
 Comb small sections of the hair with a fine (nit)
comb. Wipe the conditioner from the comb
onto tissue and look for lice and eggs. Repeat
the combing for every part of the head at least
4 to 5 times. If lice or eggs are found, the
hair should be treated.
If using conditioner to remove lice, the hair
needs to be conditioned and combed until there
have been no live lice found for 10 days.
 NO TREATMENT KILLS ALL OF THE EGGS so
treatment MUST involve 2 applications 7 days
apart. CONTINUAL CHECKING helps reduce
the likelihood of your child getting head lice.
 ALL HAIR LONGER THAN COLLAR LENGTH
SHOULD BE COMPLETELY TIED UP.
Some lice are resistant to some chemicals so check
that lice are dead to know the treatment has
worked!

