SWell – Spirituality and Wellbeing
You may be interested in spirituality, but not necessarily religion.
Here you’ll encounter the sacred and find space to be nourished,
flourish and discover the kenosis of abundant life.
SWell brings together programs and practitioners who support spirit
body mind integration. We honour our Christian heritage and are
informed by dialogue with the mystical tradition.
The group of therapists and program facilitators offer individual support,
retreats, short course, workshops and ongoing group work.
Let’s sense the Source calling forth joy with the promise of peace,
Know the Christ whose energy is love,
Hold out hope and call for reform,
Speak against forces of evil, and
Describe the possibility of freedom.
Why SWell?
The 21st century has seen a huge shift in the way people in Western culture approach religion and spirituality.
From adopting a religious tradition as a package with its history, theology, rituals and ethics, people now seek to
construct an individual spirituality drawing on from a variety of practices and beliefs. There is a growing wariness in
the community of the offerings of the church which the church then experiences as decline.
The Augustine Centre with its legacy providing personal growth courses, St David’s with its frame of progressive
theology and Kew with its mental health ministry and Korean congregation, have created a new Habitat.
Habitat Uniting Church seeks to contribute to the growing ‘spirituality and wellbeing’ movement seeking to meet
fundamental human need for spiritual nourishment. In the church there is a need for soul centred supervision and
spiritual direction to enable ministry workers navigate their work. As a progressive church, Habitat is well placed to
participate in this dynamic social movement and work effectively with spiritual seekers in our community.
Come join us!

Circle of Trust
“The underlying foundation for a circle of trust is that
we trust the inner teacher, the inner light of another
person to guide them from within. Guidance cannot
come from outside of a person. So the group must
hold you faithfully in a space where you can listen to
your inner teacher.” ~ Parker J. Palmer
Parker Palmer is a Quaker scholar and educator who
has developed a unique approach to exploring the
inner life through poetry, story, symbol, the seasons,
nature and sacred presence. He draws on the work of
Thomas Merton, Meister Eckhart, Rumi and the poetry
of Mary Oliver, David Whyte, Wendell Berry and
William Stafford. The Contemplative Circle encourages
participants to appreciate silence; practice the art of
listening; see the importance of paradox; the value of
our sense of vocation (secular and religious); and
appreciate the rhythms of life. This is an open group,
all are welcome.

Wheel of the Year
Wheel of the Year is an ancient tool from the Celtic
tradition which we will use to explore our connection to
the natural world, from a southern hemisphere
perspective. As we experience the seasons in our
outer world, they relate to our inner world and affect
our physical, emotional and spiritual selves. We will
follow the wheel meeting to explore this ancient
wisdom. We celebrate each point with ritual, poetry,
and music, learning to enrich our lives and deepen our
sense of abundance and connection to the All, the
Divine Energy of Love.
Pamela Watson has developed Soul consciousness
work over many years. From an early beginning in
Christian tradition she has explored ancient religions.
Pamela has developed her love of ritual as a celebrant
negotiating important life transitions. Pamela works in
palliative care, end of life planning, teaching and as a
counsellor.

What is Your Quest?
A long engaging search for something is often
described as a quest. Sometimes people are given a
quest, other times a quest emerges from a deep
longing or sense of restlessness. A spiritual quest
involves actively searching for meaning, purpose,
self-awareness or relationship with God.
This retreat creates time and space to reflect on
quests you’ve undertaken in the past and listen for the
new quest on which you might be beckoned in 2017.

Decluttering
In today’s culture we are told that we need so much to
be happy. We are bombarded with the lie that “we are
what we own”. A couple with two children buys over
15 years, enough stuff for 32 people! Excessive
possessions can be linked to greed and envy. Or our
stuff becomes a security, inhibiting spiritual freedom.
Julie Wiseman is interested in creating beautiful
spaces that are inviting and warm, yet uncluttered and
orderly. She refined this skill whilst working as a
Mobility and Orientation Instructor with the blind.
These homes needed to be organised to enable the
blind person to locate items. The same system works
well for sighted people. Julie suggests ideas for
storage systems and skills for running a household.

Nine Faces of the Soul
Part One – Introduction to the Enneagram
At the core of the desire to heal, grow and deepen our
faith is the yearning to experience God’s presence and
discover our Divine nature, our True Self.
The Enneagram is an insightful ‘map’ for identifying the
personality features that keep us trapped in our ego,
our false self. This workshop will lead you into a
deeper understanding of yourself and others and start
the process of integrating your personality.
With more awareness of why you do what you do,
there is an opportunity to experience more of the
nature of God.
Part Two – Journeying with the Enneagram
The Enneagram is a powerful tool for understanding
your personality – your behaviours, motivations, fears
and desires – as well as awakening your authentic
soul gifts. At its deepest level, it is not about putting
you into a rigid or static box, but rather accessing and
integrating the full spectrum of your being, and living
that in a practical and multi-dimensional way.
You will learn how to apply your understanding of the
Enneagram to real life situations.
This workshop will also offer some effective spiritual
and psychological practices to assist you in deepening
your experience with the Enneagram.

Alternatives to Violence Project
Violence can take many forms, not just physical.
It is such a part of the fabric of society that we do not
immediately see it for what it is. Through trained

self-esteem, a sense of community and trust.

Myth Archetype and Me
For people interested in exploring the connection
between the great spiritual myths of the East and West
and our own personal stories. The emphasis is on
myth as an initiation of the soul rather than a source of
beliefs. Two myths will be experienced each meeting
and how the myth has been expressed in our own
lives. We then discuss some archetypes at the core of
the myths and how they energize our personal
journeys and help us to build community.
