Biluim Israel Packing list Most of these items can be found at Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), Sporting Life, Europe Bound, Camp Connection and other camping/outdoor stores. Bags Campers can only bring one large bag on this program that is checked in at the airport. Space is extremely limited on the buses for campers and all baggage needs to fit underneath. One medium sized duffle bag/hockey bag, or suitcase on wheels. -Suggestions: At Mountain Equipment Co-op there are a variety of large duffle bags. From personal experience I highly recommend the MEC Fast track rolling duffel large or medium (preferably medium!) size, 110L. – 130L. It is just enough space to fit all you will need for 56 weeks. There are new international restrictions for the weight of luggage, be sure to get this information from the airline. We have seen many times in past years bags that have been refused and emptied at the luggage counter! One backpack/school bag (for the airplane and any day trips). -The bag can be between 23 and 32 Litres. Clothing/Shoes Underwear 14 pairs Socks 8-10 pairs -If you wear shoes everyday-if you wear sandals, you don’t need many pairs of socks. T-Shirts 12-15 shirts Tank tops 5 (not allowed on hikes, in holy sites and while volunteering but can be worn at all other times) Shorts 4-5 pair Sweatshirts/Sweaters Only one sweatshirt will be needed (for evenings in Poland and on the plane) Jeans/pants 1-2 pair Sweatpants/comfy pants 2 pairs Sleep Wear 2 sets Towels 2 towels is more than enough Bathing suits 2-3 pair Hiking/Sport Sandals 1 pair that is fit for hikes and in water. Many companies make them like, Keen, Teva, Choco and Merrill Light Hiking/Running shoes 1 pair mandatory -Many hikes require closed shoes -Mandatory for Gadna and Desert Trek Suggestions: Merrell, Nike, New Balance. Beach/Shower flip flops Nicer sandals for Shabbat and evenings (like Naot or Birkenstocks) 1 pair Nicer clothing for Shabbat - All campers need appropriate clothes for religious sites (females should have at least one long skirt and by long we mean below the knees). Kippah for Shabbat and religious sites Equipment 1-2 litre water canteen/water bottle: Make sure it is one that fits into your backpack. Campers will be drinking at least 2 litres every day before lunch. Everybody must carry two full litres of water with them at all times. We recommend Nalgene brand bottles Sleeping bag-small packing size – you want what is called a “summer bag.” As an alternative, you can also bring two sheets sewn together to use as a liner when sleeping at Gadna or on the Desert Trek. It doesn’t get cold in Israel during the summer so this alternative is sufficient. Sunscreen 2 Hats - Everyone is required to wear a proper hat that covers the whole head - bandanas/scarves are not acceptable for long hikes. Sunglasses Toiletries (shampoo, soap, shaving cream, deodorant, toothpaste, hairbrush, etc.) Detergent to wash clothes in sink (in case you want to wash a few clothing items at night) Small flashlight and batteries Camera Alarm clock-YOU WILL BE WAKING YOUR SELVES UP IN THE MORNING! You can bring anything else you want that may not have been included on this list, but just remember that you need to have room in your bag! We also want to remind all parents and participants that individuals are responsible for their own items. None of the staff are responsible for any items such as iPod’s or Digital Cameras. This also includes jewelry. At no time will we be able to back track in order to search for any of these items if lost. POLAND The only additional item necessary for Poland is a rain jacket/poncho. In some years, we have seen rain and campers have brought disposable ponchos that they discard there. We will check the weather prior to departure to remind you to bring this in case it looks like it will rain that week.
