SOCORRO, NM— With a victory
over 22 New Mexico middle
schools, the team brought back
to life the Science Olympiad
power the CVCS students’ back in
the mid 2000’s developed for the
school. Multiple State and
Regional trophies line the tall
shelves of the library—envoking
visions of victory underclass
Cottonwood students hope to
emulate during their middleschool years. Coach Tommie
McSherry’s countless hours and the help of volunteer coaches (kudos to Ms. McSherry’s husband, Greg), brought the
team to life, helping to ensure medals for all participants. The team is academically poised for many victories in future
years, with a talented group of students in sixth and seventh grades inspiring youth of all ages for future competitions.
Exceptional work, CVCS!

What would you do if you were trapped in a cave with a crowbar, a firecracker, a jar of peanut butter, a 7’ King
snake, and a trumpet? I would use the firecracker to burn up the wall so I won’t be trapped anymore.
When Monique grows up, she wants to be a nurse. Congratulations, Monique, you are a superstar!
Please send your BoxTops and Labels for Education to CVCS! We especially need
Pepperidge Farms labels.
A member of the CVCS family has passed on. Stasia Kerkmans, former Governing Council Member and
mother of Rose and Maggie Kerkmans, CVCS alumni, and step-mother of Ms. Aurelia Kerkmans, former
CVCS 3rd grade teacher, will be memorialized Saturday, March 5, at 5:00pm. The memorial will be held
in the back room of the Bodega. Stasia was a friend to all with her bright smile and quick wit. We
keep the Kerkmans in our thoughts and send them our condolences.
