Chaplain’s
Chat 19
January
8th – 14th.
In 1989, a spacecraft called ‘Galileo’ was launched on a journey to the planet Jupiter. The craft was named after
the astronomer Galileo. He died on 8th. January 1642. He used his ‘astronomer’ (telescope) and discovered four
moons orbiting that planet. Jupiter is 1400 times the volume of Earth. Why mention Galileo at the start of the
new term..... Today the Church celebrates the arrival of the MAGI (Yes: officially it is 6th January but the Catholic
Church has transferred the Feast to the Sunday following so that Christians can come and share the full treasures
of the CRIB which had been bereft of their presence). We believe that the Magi were also astronomers. The
shepherds were of the Jewish belief so the appearance of an angel was quite normal. Our wise men, however,
had no knowledge of the One True God and how He communicated to His people throughout the Old Testament.
A star was quite different. It intrigued them and they followed. Such was their thinking that ‘something-or
someone-special was somewhere out there’ so they brought valuable gifts ‘just in case’
We shall celebrate this wonderful occasion next week:
Wednesday 11th. at 9.15 (with Charlton present);
and Thursday 12th. at 9am. (with our Seniors present).
YOU ARE VERY WELCOME TO ONE OR BOTH
The seasons run their endless round and the
old year is made new. Life, death and life
again dawns on the world, and we are poised
on the threshold of a new year. The earth, set
in its place by the Lord, circles the sun,
created by the Lord. The year that has gone is
the Lord's, and the Lord's is the year yet to
come. All times and all places, all peoples, all
that is old and all that is new: all is the Lord's.
All has come from the Lord, and all will
return to the Lord. The Lord who is beyond
all time is in all time, with us now and coming
to meet us from the time that is yet to be.
Blessed be the name of the Lord.
Let us ask a Blessing from The Lord for
ourselves, our family, friends, and our school.
Each moment is the moment where God
dwells, and each moment is every moment.
God's presence blesses the moment. Each day
that has passed is God's and is ever before
God's eyes. God's presence redeems the day.
Each year that is to come, comes from God
and will be blessed by God who is already with
the year. May God bless these moments, these
days, these years, and especially this new year
that has just begun. Amen.
Our last 2016 Assembly became a High Court with a
petition that ‘Christmas should be abolished’ The case
for and against was ruthlessly argued but the jury
could not decide one way or the other. The Presiding
Judge called an adjournment until Thursday 12th. at
9am. The WHOLE SCHOOL will be asked to vote.
WHAT WILL YOUR DECISION BE?........
